There was a thunderous frown on his face, seeing her clad only in a thick blanket.
While the men lowered their eyes, there were surprised looks from the women.
With a vicious curse, the demon got down the horse.
“Rudra, I came to tell you—”
He didn’t let her finish. He swept her into his arms and carried her back to their tent.
“Why the bloody hell are you running about without your damn clothes?” he demanded, lowering her feet to the ground.
“I came to tell you that… I want you to be careful.”
His blazing eyes softened. “I see.”
“You are still a savage demon. But I don’t wish your death or want you to get hurt.”
There was a flash of amusement. “Don’t worry, wife. I will return. And I will return to claim what is mine.”
“I’m only yours until the statue commissioning ceremony!” she argued automatically.
His hand tugged on the knot she held in front. The blanket slipped, leaving her bare to his gaze. His grey eyes darkened.
“If my men weren’t waiting outside, I would make you scream the name of who you belong to again and again like last night,” he said. Then, leaning forward, he bit her on top of her right breast.
Her cheeks heated. “Savage demon,” she whispered as she shivered in pleasure.
With an unexpected smile, he cupped her cheek and kissed her on her lips.
The kiss was deep and passionate. She kissed him back.
But the kiss ended too soon when he pulled away from her.
“Behave while I’m gone,” he warned before leaving their tent.
She was pissed at the demon’s arrogant warning, but she prayed that he would return safely.
CHAPTER 34
Nandini couldn’t relax.
She tried to distract her mind and went to the cooking area as usual. But the cook shook her head.
“You are the Kabali clan head’s wife. You mustn’t involve yourself in such tasks.”
Nandini was taken aback. “But I have been coming here for many weeks and can help.”
The cook stood her ground and sent her away.
Frowning at the odd behavior, Nandini went to the stables. Most of the horses were gone. But just as she picked up the feed to give to the horses, the stable master came to her and took the bucket away.
“I will feed the horses, and everything is already taken care of. There is no need for any help.”
“But—”
The stable master walked away.
Just as she wondered why the people were behaving oddly, Rumi came to her and told her the truth.
