The Aria clan had sent a teenager to the north Singoor to find the encampment of the Kabalis. Although the boy was dressed as a north clan member, the Kabalis caught him. They released the boy with a Kabali tattoo on his chest as a warning.
Rishab let out a growl of frustration. “We need to destroy the damn Kapoors. They are helping that savage bastard in every step of the way.”
“We can’t destroy the Kapoors,” said Shivay. “At least not immediately. It will take time.”
The Kapoors were too powerful and influential to be destroyed easily. Before he could say anything, the office door opened, and he saw Ishani’s worried face, along with his father and mother.
“Then what can we do?” Nakul asked in frustration. “How do we stop that savage bastard from torturing Nandini?”
“The only way is to call for a clan meeting,” said Shivay. “This time, I’m sure Rudra Kabali will accept.”
CHAPTER 32
The next morning, Nandini woke up to the sounds of drums.
It was followed by Uma and Rumi entering the tent along with a group of women.
“What’s going on?” Nandini asked, seeing the excited faces.
“We are to prepare for guests!” Uma said in excitement.
“Who?” Nandini asked.
“The north clan heads are meeting here.”
Nandini frowned in confusion. The demon had told her the previous night that there was going to be a meeting in the holy lands for all the clans in Singoor.
“Come!” Uma said in excitement. “We must get you ready before the guests arrive. Everyone would be curious to see the Kabali clan head’s wife.”
She wanted to say temporary wife, but she held back.
The Kabali women escorted her to the pond and took over. She was bathed, dressed and primped up lavishly. By the time the women were done with her, the drums began to get louder.
“They must be arriving,” one of the women said.
Nandini was escorted into the encampment where everyone, including the demon, was waiting. The demon’s face was covered in ash.
He looked at her when she joined him. The heat in his grey eyes quivered her stomach.
“I thought the meeting was in the holy lands,” she said.
She thought he would ignore her, but he replied.
“This meeting is only with the north clan heads.”
She realized he was meeting the north clan heads to ensure they would be united during the meeting held in the holy lands.
What is he going to tell them?
She wanted to be a part of the meeting, but she knew he wouldn’t agree.
He still didn’t trust her.
Just as she tried to think of a way to be present during the north clans meeting, the drums got even louder. A large group rode into the encampment.
When they got down their horses, she noticed the group consisted of mostly older men and women and also a couple of young women. They were dressed differently from the Kabali clan. The men’s faces were covered in ash, while the women’s had patterned black dots similar to that of the Kabali clan. And like the demon, the male clan heads’ upper bodies were covered in large tattoos representing their clans.
The demon received them and introduced her as his wife. She was surprised that the older women were not the clan heads’ wives as she had thought. Many of the north clans had female clan heads.
