“Come in,” she said.

A small group of Thakvar women, along with Ishani, came inside.

“We are here to help you get ready,” Ishani said with a smile.

The group helped Nandini get ready. They wanted to set her hair into an elaborate hairstyle, but she told them she preferred it left loose according to the Kabali way. The Thakvar women seemed fascinated by the Kabali clan jewelry as they put it on her.

“This pendant is so beautiful,” said Ishani, holding the heart-shaped pendant that Rudra had given that morning.

“Thank you.”

The Kabali heart.

Nandini had yet to ask the demon why he had given it to her, especially when the tradition was for the Kabali heirs to give it after the birth of the first child.

Will the demon be happy if I’m pregnant?

The thought crept into her mind. The way they gave it to passion each night, he must know there was the slightest possibility.

“The Kabali marriages are meant forever.”

She recalled his words when she told him she wanted a temporary marriage of convenience.

Does he still think the marriage should last forever? Or will he be relieved to end the marriage after peace is restored in Singoor?

She didn’t know how her demon husband felt. But the thought of holding a grey-eyed baby in her arms made her stomach flutter.

Three months ago, she had been terrified at the thought of falling pregnant with the savage demon leader’s child. Her feelings have changed drastically since then.

Now, she craved being in her demon husband’s arms.

But forever was more than just hot passion. Forever meant sharing everything. She would share passion, laughter, anger, and sadness and feel a sense of belongingness when they were together.

She already felt most of those things with her demon husband.

She bit her lip at the thought.

“Don’t bite your lips,” Ishani said with a laugh while applying pale pink lipstick.

“Sorry,” Nandini murmured with a smile.

There were too many things happening for her to think about whether or not she could dream of a forever with her demon husband.

“Alright, you are ready,” said Ishani. “Let’s go down. Everyone must be waiting.”

Nandini nodded.

She was led down the stairs. Gauri and Aadya joined midway.

She noticed how all three sisters-in-law looked beautiful and radiant, dressed in the Thakvar clan colors and antique jewelry.

“Did I miss any important news in the past three months?” Nandini teased. “Will my first nephew or niece arrive shortly?”

Ishani blushed. “There is no news… yet.”

Nandini laughed. “I’m surprised Ma isn’t putting pressure on three of you to present her with a brood of grandchildren.”

Gauri smiled. “Actually, she is. But we decided to wait until things settle down.”
