Heat sizzled through her at her touch.
“Rudra… we need to talk,” she said.
“Later,” he replied. “I want you.”
As soon as his lips touched hers in a heated kiss, she was lost.
CHAPTER 44
Distant sounds of celebratory drums made Nandini open her eyes.
It was early morning before sunrise, and she was lying on the bed with her demon husband’s arms wrapped around her with his palm cupping her breast possessively. She knew he would get up and leave before sunrise like he normally did.
But before he left, she would have to talk to him.
She thought he was sleeping, but she realized he was awake when his hand cupping her breast moved lower, grazing her stomach and going between her legs.
She bit her lip as arousal coursed through her body.
“Why are there sounds of drums and conch shells so early in the morning?” she asked, enjoying her demon husband’s touch.
“They are preparing for us to go to the Thakvar mansion today,” he replied.
She was stunned. “What!” she said, sitting up and turning to look at him in shock.
He watched her lazily. “Don’t you want to go?” he asked.
“Of course I want to go!” She was desperate to see her family. “But why did you not tell me beforehand? I could have helped in the preparations!”
“Everything has been prepared,” he said. “You just need to join me.”
She was about to give a piece of her mind to the arrogant demon when there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” the demon commanded.
A big group of women entered the bedroom suite carrying platters to get her ready. Letting out a gasp, Nandini dragged the bedsheet closer, covering herself and the demon’s body.
The demon didn’t seem all that concerned that a dozen or so women, most of whom were old enough to be his grandmother, were inside the bedroom while he was naked with his wife. His hard arousal was clearly outlined under the blanket.
“Get my wife ready soon,” he commanded. “We’ll leave right after sunrise.”
Nandini was pulled out of the bed, and before she could protest, a black cloth was wrapped around her. She was taken into the large bathroom to get ready.
Over the next hour or so, she had to give in while she was scrubbed, washed, and dried before they put her in beautiful clothes and jewelry.
The demon came to her briefly while her hair was being dried and arranged in loose curls. Their eyes met in the tall mirror while he put something around her neck. Before she could see it, he left.
Nandini pulled up a delicate silver chain with a large, heart-shaped black pendant surrounded by pink diamonds. There were looks and sounds of surprises from the women around her.
“It’s the Kabali heart,” an older woman said. “The Kabali heirs give it to their wives after the birth of their first child. But Rudra has given it to you right now.”
“Oh.” Nandini found her demon husband’s gesture to be sweet.
She didn’t have anything she could gift him in return. She hoped she would gift something meaningful when they visited the Thakvar mansion.
Excitement and happiness coursed through her at the thought of seeing her family. She couldn’t wait to hug her mother.
The sounds of the drums and conch shells increased in cadence while she was led down the mansion. Just as she stepped out, she saw hundreds of Kabali clan members participating in the celebration.
