I shrug off his grip, shooting him a venomous glare. I don’t take orders from anyone, especially not some puffed-up captain who thinks he’s hot shit because he’s Ileana’s lapdog.
Javier’s crew starts unloading the drugs from our truck, but I barely pay attention. My gaze is locked on Javier, imagining how I could wipe that smug grin off his face. Maybe I’d start by carving it off with my knife, nice and slow...
“It looks like it’s all here,” Javier announces, snapping me out of my dark thoughts. “I guess Ileana’s dogs can follow orders after all.”
That’s it. I lunge forward, ready to tear this motherfucker apart with my bare hands. But Jorge’s faster, stepping in front of me and touching my chest.
“Matias, stand down,” he orders. “We’re done here.”
I glare at him, every muscle in my body coiled tight. Who the fuck does Jorge think he is, giving me commands? I could snap his neck like a twig if I wanted to.
But as much as it galls me to admit it, Jorge outranks me. And going against Ileana’s precious captain would only land me in a world of shit I don’t need right now.
So I step back, letting out a harsh breath through my nose. “Fine,” I spit out, my voice dripping with venom. “But this isn’t over, Javier. Watch your back.”
Javier laughs, the sound grating on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard. “Anytime,” he taunts. “Anytime.”
I turn on my heel and stalk back to the truck, blood boiling in my veins. One day, I’ll make him pay for his disrespect. But for now, I have more important things to focus on, such as returning to Kali and continuing our twisted game.

KALI
Alice sleeps soundly on the hay bale. I don’t understand how she can sleep. I sit nearby, knees curled to my chest, unable to rest despite the late hour.
Soft footsteps draw my attention, and I look up to find Luna staring at me. “Can’t sleep?” she asks.
I shake my head. “No, you?”
She shakes her head, glancing enviously at Alice. Gently, she sits down beside me, silence filling the space between us.
“What does Matias do to you?” She asks, breaking the silence.
I tense at Luna’s question, a knot forming in my stomach. How could she know about Matias taking me? I always assumed they were asleep when he came for me in the dead of night.
“What do you mean?” I ask, feigning ignorance.
Luna studies me carefully. “You know what I’m talking about, Kali. The nights he comes and takes you away.”
My cheeks flush with shame and anger. So they did know. They just never said anything. The thought of confiding the degrading things Matias does to me makes me feel sick, even though I love being with him.
What is wrong with me?
“I don’t want to talk about it,” I mutter, staring at the ground.
Luna gently touches my arm. “Kali, I’m here for you, no matter what. You can tell me.”
I swallow hard, fighting back the tears that threaten to spill over. How can I put into words the humiliation, the violation, the twisted sense of desire he stirs in me against my will? Just the thought of saying it out loud fills me with dread.
“It’s nothing,” I murmur, avoiding her probing stare. “Just... training.”
Luna places her hand on mine, steadying my trembling fingers. “You don’t have to protect me, Kali. You can talk about it with me.”
Luna’s soft voice pierces the silence, gently probing. I know she senses my unease, the turmoil beneath my outward calm. With a sigh, I decide to confide in her. After all, we’re in this nightmare together.
“He started off by touching me, kissing me. But last night, it was different.” I swallow hard, remembering how it felt while I ran through the woods. “Matias told me he’d free me, but there was a condition.”
Luna’s eyes widen. “What condition?” she asks, leaning closer.
