Page 19 of Tank

Tank knew the cat’s mates had turned into white cats, but eventually the magic would run out, wouldn’t it? He tried to forget everything but the work that needed done, but everything was against him. With his exceptional hearing, he heard a text hit his phone. That could be important, so he stopped a moment to check it.

His youngest brother had sent it. Tad, his brother worked the pipeline right now trying to make the money for his own cabin on the lake. He nearly had it, but he’d been gone a while and wanted to come home for a visit. Not the best time, but he sent him a reply. Come on and let me know when you’re closer.

Maybe he could stay at his lakeside cabin since Tank wasn’t getting anything done anyway. Tad might even get started on some of that work. Probably not. Little brothers rarely took on those kinds of jobs.

“What was that about?” Missy questioned.

“My little bro is coming for a visit.”

“Where will he stay?”

“At my lake house. He rarely stays long. It’ll be okay.” He assured her because he noticed she seemed worried.

“If you’re sure?”

“I am. We’d best get back to work.” Even with the temporary break, they were getting a good amount of work done. Building fence was a hard job, but bears were strong and tough. For a human Missy was a good helper too.

It was lunch time and Missy left a bit early then he followed her in. The aroma of lasagna and garlic bread made his stomach growl. There was buttered corn on the cob and a mixed salad too. Apple turnovers finished off an amazing meal. Then it was back to the fence as Missy stayed putting up leftovers and cleaning up. She rejoined him fifteen minutes later and refilled the ice chest with drinks.

That female was the perfect lady for any male. Thoughts of mating filled his head, but she’d not shown the interest he needed. Although they talked as they worked, it was general talk about the farm and the work they were doing. Even people they needed were discussed but no talk about them as a couple. Why didn’t she seem to care more?

They got a large amount of the field done and it was time to quit, but nothing was said about getting together. She mentioned supper, but nothing about what they might do afterwards. Was it possible she just didn’t care and had no interest in him? As strong as his feelings were, how could she feel nothing?

Missy headed back to get supper put together as he finished putting their gear up. It didn’t take him long then he followed her to the house. As he got close, he could scent a casserole or maybe more than one. Entering the kitchen, he saw a cheesy enchilada dish, refried beans, Spanish rice, and nachos. Tank loved nachos. These looked like nachos supreme with a little bit of everything in them.

After he cleaned up, he came back and set the table and got them both a big glass of tea. They ate quickly and the food as always was good. Now they were done, and they sat there doing nothing and barely talking. Were they stalling unsure of what to say? Hell, he knew what he wanted, but what did Missy want?

“Why don’t we clean things up?” Tank suggested. He began to clear the table and Missy started putting up the leftovers.

Then she washed the dishes and he rinsed them and dried them. Maybe he should put them up, but she’d said not to last time. “It’s okay. They’ll be fine there. Are you tired or do you want to play cards or watch a movie in the living room?” She asked.

“I’m not ready to sleep yet. Are you any good at cards?”

“Not really. I only play a bit for fun.”

“Why don’t we watch a movie? What do you got?” Tank asked. He hoped this would help them get closer. It couldn’t hurt.

“I’ve got a couple action adventure and a detective movie. Those are the new ones. There are a pile of oldies.”

“Why don’t you pick an action adventure one? I’ve not seen most of the newer ones.”

“Okay. Here we go.” Missy said. They settled onto the couch together watching the new movie.

When the movie was over, he leaned into her and gave her a sweet kiss.

This was what he wanted, needed. He grabbed her hand and led her to her room. Would she give in? Tank hoped so. Once there, he kissed her again as he slid his shirt off. Missy could stop him at any moment, but she didn’t. Did that mean she was ready? He could only hope so.

Her T-shirt went over her head and he dropped it on the floor. His mouth moved down her neck as his fingers undid the snaps on her bra until it popped open. Her breasts spilled out as he pulled her bra off and dropped it on the floor. Goddess he was ready to gobble her up. He undid his jeans kicked off his boots and finally got naked. It was the way shifters preferred to be.

Missy just stared at him and had only removed her shoes. Hopefully, she wasn’t having second thoughts about loving him. Pulling her into his arms, he gave her a kiss that made the temperature go up and he thought things were smoking. Tank was so ready to get busy when he heard a sound. Maybe it was just a resident making noise? The sound was outside, but it wasn’t the usual sound of entry.

Someone was forcing their way in. It was a group of people and now the wolf scent his him hard carried on the breeze outside. No wolves lived here. He stopped what he was doing as Missy shot him a what the hell look. Reaching over, he grabbed the security button for Tyne.

“Put something on. We’re about to be attacked.” He reached down and got his boxer briefs sliding them on. That would keep his cock out of the way and hopefully unharmed. “Get ready.”

He was glad to see she threw a sleep T-shirt on although her being naked would have thrown the attackers off. Tank was just too jealous to allow them to see her. They were in the hall and he moved to the bedroom door clocking the first guy on the chin sending him flying back knocking half a dozen attackers down like bowling pins. Don’t mess with a bear defending his mate.

“Watchout for the guy in the doorway. Someone go around to the window.” A guy called out.
