“Goodnight everyone,” he says before heading to the front door. “Merry Christmas.”
“Where’s he going?” I ask my mom.
“Oh, he’s going to an old high school buddy’s Christmas party,” she replies.
“Oh.” My heart sinks a little, but it’s probably for the best. At least this way we won’t tempt each other. There’s just way too many eyes and ears here tonight. Instead, I decide to focus all of my attention on helping my mom set up folding beds for everyone spending the night. Right now, our guests will either sleep in the finished basement or in the attic. After everyone goes to bed, I decide to take a relaxing shower to calm myself down. Then I head into my bedroom to get some much-needed sleep.
“Took you long enough,” a familiar voice says.
I gasp, jolting back as my heart leaps into my throat. “What are you doing in here? I thought you went to a party!”
Chase’s deep blue eyes darken as he takes in the sight of my revealing nightie. “No, I only said that so my absence wouldn’t look suspicious to my dad.”
“If you’re not sleeping on the couch, where will you sleep tonight?” I ask.
His eyes flash with desire, and my cheeks heat. “Do you have somewhere in mind that you want me to sleep?”
I don’t answer, I just swallow hard. “How did you sneak into my room?”
“After I left the house, I parked my car several blocks away,” he explains. “Then I climbed up the garden wall and broke in to your bedroom through the window.”
I shake my head, my lips curving up into an amazed smile. “You’re kind of twisted, aren’t you?”
“You don’t know the half of it.” He laughs. “And to be honest, this brought back memories of me sneaking in and out of this very bedroom when I was in high school,” he discloses, grinning.
God, he looks so handsome standing in the sliver of moonlight coming from the window beside my bed.
“Breaking into my room was risky,” I say, chewing on my lower lip.
“Risky, but worth it,” he admits before taking a step closer. “And besides, there’s something that I’m wanting that I still haven’t got for Christmas.”
My heart skips a beat. “Is that so?”
“Yes. Ask me what it is?”
“What is it?”
His lips twitch with amusement. “All I want for Christmas is my stepsister naked with her legs wrapped around me.”
“That’s very specific…” I say after a few breaths.
“That’s my only wish this year.”
“You’re not being serious.” I peer up at him and he caresses the side of my face with his hand.
“I’m dead serious. I can’t waste anymore time without you. Plus, we’re running out of time before you have to go back to school. Then we’ll be on opposite ends of the United States.”
“Wh-what if someone hears us?” I ask.
“We have to be really, really quiet. Okay?”
Am I really going to go through with this?
I decide right then and there that I want him for Christmas too. Then I nod, my chest heaving with anxious breaths. “Okay.”
