I close the front door behind them, and Kian cages me between his body and the door. My breath wooshes out of me and my heart speeds up in my chest, excitement rushing through my veins. Every atom in my body is hyper aware of his body glued to mine. He lowers his face to mine.
“I am your team now, angel. I’ll fuck you so hard you won’t even consider having someone else on your team.” He pins my hands above my head. “Let’s see how much of a fucking team player I am when I make you come until you can’t walk without feeling me between your legs.” He drags his nose up my sensitive neck.
I gulp and clench my thighs, the rush of desire I feel weakening my knees.
He tears himself away. “Let’s eat. You’ll need your strength.”
He’s evil, planting in my head images of him doing what he said.
I am strong. I am strong.
The next evening, we reach my aunt’s lodge and step inside. Jake welcomes us, and I spot Austin who greets me with a bright smile.
“How’s my favorite patient doing?” Austin asks, and I return from my mental wanderings.
“Isn’t that unfair to your other patients?”
“I’m not neglecting anyone,” he says with a hand on his chest. He turns serious, or maybe it has something to do with Kian’s murderous glare. “Are you doing better?” Austin asks.
“Good, then bad, but I’m able to keep more food down.”
“That’s good. Come to the hospital tomorrow for a checkup, will you?”
I nod in agreement.
When I turn around, a woman is coming from the kitchen with a tray of glasses, followed by my aunt carrying snacks. She’s cute, with her hair tied in a fishtail, and her round brown eyes. She’s also blonde, and that hair color triggers me.
I sigh and walk over to the table.
“Hi. I’m Ellia, Kian’s wife.” I could smack myself when I see his satisfied grin.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Amy, Jake’s colleague. He told me you are having a difficult pregnancy. I am sorry.” Her heart-shaped face shows genuine care.
Jake splits us up in teams and ushers us to take our seats. I am paired with Austin, the over-cuteness of Amy paired with my husband, making it impossible to put the jealousy monster to sleep, and my aunt with Jake. Perfect!
“Traitor,” I whisper under my breath and my aunt suppresses a smile. The wave of heat crashing down on me must be because of the pregnancy.
Jake shuffles the cards and hands each of us five. Kian arranges Amy’s cards, explaining the game.
“Everything all right?” Kian asks, his brow furrowing in concern.
“Perfect,” I say in a high-pitched tone. Everyone looks at me. That was sarcastic, I say with my eyes while his gaze drops to his cards.
“You don’t seem perfect,” Austin says, confirming Kian isn’t obtuse. He’s set on pissing me off by doing nothing, but he knows what he is doing is wrong.
“Let’s beat them,” I tell Austin.
To make things worse, Kian and Amy win every round. I take a calming breath, afraid I’ll spit fire with the next exhale.
“You’re really good at that. How come?” Austin asks and crosses his hands over his chest.
“I picked it up,” Kian says with a disinterested shrug.
“He owns a hotel chain and several casinos in Las Vegas,” my aunt says and Amy’s eyes widen. She turns to him, clasping her hands together.
“Oh, which one? My friends and I want to visit the Reyes. We heard it’s amazing, but every time we try to book a room, they are all booked up.”
“I’ll see what I can do,” he says and looks at me as if asking what to do.
