“I am sure he’ll marry Melanie.” Stupid, stupid woman, didn’t she warn you? But no, you had to fall in love, and ride a wave that dragged you under.
“If I wanted him to marry Melanie, I would have made that happen. But you’re his weakness, his blind spot. Seeing him miserable, that’s what counts.”
My brows shoot up. His confidence and hatred is unparalleled.
“You’ll marry in two weeks.”
“Why would I do that?” I hide my hands behind my back. I can’t let him see that I am still wearing my engagement ring. He smirks as if he’s aware of my weakness.
“How much do you love your family or your friends?” His eyes glint with sadistic satisfaction and I take a step back. He has my senses tingling with fear. The room gets claustrophobic with him in it. With every ticking second, my nervousness increases.
“Are you threatening me?”
“No, I am stating a fact. I want that bastard miserable. I’m smarter than to stop him from marrying to get his inheritance.” He grips my chin in a tight lock.
I clench my jaw to keep a straight face. “I don’t understand...” I say through a gulp. Why did I let him in? Yes, right, because Kian pushed me into madness.
“You don’t have to. He’ll be miserable enough with you as his wife. It will gain me time to get what’s rightfully mine back.” He releases my chin and laughs. “You sleeping with Brandon played right into my hands. A whore just like your aunt.”
Anger shoots through me, and I hook my fist right into his jaw.
He staggers back, grinding his jaw, eyes seizing me up with undiluted hate.
“Get out.” I jerk my chin, my insides roaring with anger. “He is your son. Why would you want that for him?”
At the door, he halts and tells me where my mom and dad work, the names of their closest colleagues, even where my aunt and Jake live. He shoves his phone in my face, the screen showing videos of everyone I love. It’s in his eyes, the lack of morals. “No one will stand in my way.”
“You wouldn’t,” I say with a shaky voice.
A red dot appears on my dad’s back, and I blink, terrified, and I shake my head.
“That’s a hoax.”
He huffs as if losing his patience, and he video calls someone. A man answers, a black mask covering his face.
“Whenever you say,” the mystery gunman says.
My hand shoots to my mouth as the sniper shows me his unobstructed view of my father.
“He’s quite trigger happy,” Richard says, a glint of evil in his eyes.
I am muted by shock, pure fear cutting my vocal cords.
“Two weeks, be there.”
I nod without a pause, and when the sniper packs up his rifle, I breathe with relief. My heartbeats get back to normal, and I tell myself it’s because I believe he would do something to my loved ones, I accept that. I would do anything for their safety
Chapter 47
Kian
I see Richard leaving Brandon’s suite and intercept him in the lobby, and he smirks.
“What are you doing here?”
“Chatted with your fiancée about the wedding. I guess she went back to the worthy one.”
“Shut the fuck up. I can smell your desperation.”
