CAL: I’m on somewhat of a break too. I’m okay, Laynee. I’m talking to you. It’s been the best few minutes of my life since I’ve seen you.

CAL: What are you going to do on your winter break?

My fingers hover over my keyboard as I hesitate to tell him the truth. I'm not sure why, since he bailed on me twice without so much as a damn get lost, or I don't want to ever see you again. However, I always thought it’d be him and I doing this trip.

LAYNEE: I'm going to Switzerland.

There's a painful two minutes that tick by before he responds again.

CAL: No shit. How many days?

My heart seizes again, dragging me back to the bleak and unsolved mystery of Cal’s whereabouts and why he isn’t here.

Maybe it's because he's over me and just wants to go back to what we were before that night. Maybe he doesn't want to argue with me right now since it's been so long.

Regardless, I'm upset when I don't want to be, and I need to head downstairs before I miss our plane.

LAYNEE: Five days.

CAL: Who are you going with?

LAYNEE: I don't think you want to know the answer to that question.

CAL: You’re going with a guy.

It’s not a question, but the cold-blooded fact that he allowed to have happen.

CAL: It’s okay, Laynee. I want to know where you are, and how you’re doing. We promised that nothing would ever changed between us, right?

Wrong.

We demolished it into a million pieces, and there is no way we could go back to what we originally were.

CAL: Then tell me something else.

I’ve missed you every single day since you left me behind again. I can't help but wonder why I'm not enough or why your words sounded so authentic. Or why I can't hate you, even though I say it a million times each day.

LAYNEE: Lil Jon is taking over the world.

CAL: LOL, is he?

LAYNEE: Haven't you listened to the radio in the last few months?

CAL: Not lately. However, I'm hoping it's not any worse than Good Charlotte.

LAYNEE: Psh.

LAYNEE: You wouldn’t know good tunes if it hit you upside the head.

CAL: You forget who taught you everything you know?

LAYNEE: Carson Daly?

CAL: He would only be so lucky as to have the musical taste and ability to know a good band.

LAYNEE: Some of your bands were questionable.

CAL: As in?
