“I told you that I didn’t want to see you again. What part of that was confusing, Oliver? Especially after everything you did to me.”

He lifts his whole body in a shrug like an idiot. “I just thought you were mad.”

“I didn’t come and see you again in prison. That should’ve been a sign—”

“Yeah,” he scoffs with a slight chuckle as if this is a joke. “You were really mad.”

“Oliver—”

“Miss Reese,” a deep, often encountered, and sexy as hell voice strums out, creating my head to glimpse faithfully over to locate the man I was always supposed to side and be with. “Is this a client?”

“Mr. Harper,” I breathe, giving a slight shake of my head. Cal watches me like he’s trying to decipher what the hell is going on, and I pray that he can read me. I want Oliver out. “Can you—”

“I’m Oliver Ginam,” my ex-boyfriend vouches, taking a step in his direction with his hand extended. “I’m her boyfriend.” Cal’s greens slice to me, and I really shake my head.

“Here’s your flowers, Laynee,” Marie singsongs at my side again on cue to make this whole ordeal worse.

“Keep ‘em,” I reply without looking at her, and I open my mouth to tell Oliver that I’ll walk him out when he speaks up again like a mindless moron.

“You her co-worker?”

“Her boss,” Cal deadpans, not returning his gesture or sharing Oliver’s amusement of being here. With his black suit flawlessly fitted to his brawn frame, and the facial hair that he grew out a tad more than normal, because I fucked up and told him I like how it feels against my skin when he’s torturing me with his kisses, he looks like a god.

A sexy as all fucking hell god.

One that’s about to, more than likely, lose his shit on me because yet another visitor showed up that’s not business related.

“Oh.” Oliver drops his hand and chortles nervously. “Well, don’t work my girl too hard.”

“Oliver,” I seize out through my teeth. “I’ll walk—”

“Why don’t you come inside my office, Miss Reese,” Cal offers smoothly. “It sounds like the two of you have some things to discuss.”

“We don’t,” I hastily counter because God only knows what Cal is thinking right now. I don’t want to fight about Oliver. I’ll fight with him about everything else but never ever this dummy. “He was just leaving.”

“Well, if you don’t mind,” Oliver replies, ignoring everything I’m saying and stepping inside Cal’s office the moment he moves to the side. “I would like to speak with her. We have a lot to catch up on.”

Speedily, I come up to Cal’s front as he intently watches my every move. His expression doesn’t change, and I know I’m going to hear about this later. Again, I don’t want to argue about ex’s, just stupid things that always find their way into our conversations.

“I didn’t want him here,” I offer quietly. “I didn’t know he was going to come. I didn’t even know he got out—”

“Do you trust me?” Cal cuts in, keeping his impassive look on me. I bob my head without hesitation. “Good, because you’re about to get pissed.”

My jaw slacks as he pivots and confidently walks inside after my ex, giving me the only choice I have to follow him in.

“Mr. Ginam,” my best friend chimes, all business. “Like I said, I’m Cal Harper. Laynee’s childhood best friend.”

Oliver looks back at me to him, his happiness of appearing out of nowhere fading as quickly as mine did when I thought Cal bought me flowers. “No shit.”

“Close the door, Laynee,” Cal orders with malice laced in his tone, and he doesn’t speak again until he hears the soft flick of the door.

In fact, he doesn’t speak at all with words, because his elbow heaves back, and he plows his fist straight into Oliver’s face.

My ex stumbles back in surprise while I gasp, already moving toward Cal to get him to calm down.

“What the fuck?!” Oliver roars out, his hand coming up to ginger his jaw. “Are you fucking my girl?!”

Cal’s movements are so quick and beyond insane that I don’t even recognize him when he lunges for Oliver again. “Your girl?” His voice is clipped like Oliver’s admission to claiming me is a joke. “You fucked my girl over with your credit card fraud and racking up her debts.”
