“Are you sure?”
“Go, please. I could use the downtime, you know?”
She nods. “Yeah, okay.” She hikes up her purse. “I’ll only be gone a—well, I’ll be at the bar.”
Berkley moves in closer, impatient and rude as fuck. “Done yet?"
I turn my body, my ass brushing against Dexter’s. He must’ve moved closer. “I’ll be right here, Berk. Make any shifty moves on my cousin, I’ll fuck your face up.” Her face twists before I place my hand on my cousin’s back. “Have a good time catching up. I’ll be here.”
“See you in a little bit,” she mutters, not bothering to chide me about being a douchebag to her friend.
She knows I won’t heed her shit either.
I watch her dip in between people, careful not to knock into anyone before turning around to my new friends.
Nonchalantly, I let my eyes hit Dexter, quietly waiting for me. I smile, slithering back into the booth and close to Billy who's already taken Sadie’s spot.
“This is better,” Billy comments, pulling at his beer. “You come here often?”
“No.”
“I was going to say I’ve never seen you here.”
"You a regular, Bill?" I see him cringe at his new little nickname, and he shakes his head.
“Only on days we get off early.”
“Where are you from?” Dexter finally asks, chiming into the conversation.
“Los Angeles.”
Not signing up for surprise visits.
“No shit,” Billy replies. “Why are you here?”
“Business.”
“You’re not a talker, are you?”
Finally, someone who understands me.
My lips curl into a smile. “I’m interested in another sort of fun tonight, fellas. How about you?” Billy beams while Dexter looks skeptical.
He should be.
I’m not your basic bitch. I mean what I say and don’t bother to sugarcoat it because what good does that do for anyone?
Chase was right to stay away from me.
I'm definitely not what he needs in his life. One exhale in his world and I'd annihilate it because I'm broken, torn, and a whole lot of dangerous when that weak feeling of being vulnerable starts to seep through my veins.
And I’ll do anything to rid it from my body.
“I’m down,” Billy exerts, scooting out of the booth.
Of course, you are Billy. And you’ll probably finish in about two minutes.
Dexter climbs out and waits for me to follow. “After you.”
