Chase: Thanks. What’s the charity event for?

Me: Cancer. It's a lady that I did an event for last year. She mentioned cancer on accident, and it hit home.

Chase: Seems to hit home with a lot of people. How’s she doing?

I glance over a few lanes to see her laughing with a bunch of people surrounding her.

Me: In good spirits. She’s a really sweet lady.

Chase: You’re sweet for showing up for her.

Me: Aw, man. Don’t get all soft on me now.

Chase: Shit, I’m not.

Chase: I’m one up on you with the Yanks-Sox series. Just have your shit together for when I’m ready to do my twenty questions.

Me: Seriously, the lamest thing you could've asked me for.

Chase: I’ve been known to be called “special” from time to time.

Chase: And says the girl who asked me for a secret.

Me: I mean, you’re a lawyer, you could have some shady-ass shit going down over there. Like being part of the mafia or some conspiracy about letting criminals go for favors and shit.

Chase: Seriously...you watch too much TV.

Me: You obviously work too much.

Chase: My spare time isn’t watching crime shows when that’s all I deal with on a daily basis. I watch ESPN.

Me: You’re getting lamer by the second.

Chase: Good thing we don’t have to like each other.

Me: That’d be a little hard on your part, I’m very likable.

“Here’s your burger.” My body jolts forward at the unexpected sound of Wade’s.

Geezus fuck.

I spin on my heels and tuck my cell back in my jeans. “Thanks.” I eye the giant burger and see he didn’t order anything for himself. “Damn, I hope you’re splitting this with me.”

“I guess if you—” My name is called from behind me; it’s my turn.

“Oh shit.” I spin on my heels, rudely leaving him there with the food that he so graciously grabbed for me. “I’ll be back.”

I quickly take my turn, getting a spare, and hit a few high fives on my way back to find him patiently waiting for me.

God, I could get used to that.

I’m not naive enough to say that Wade is not my type.

He’s everything my type.

From his height to his build, to those captivating blue eyes and the depth of his voice.

If I wasn't so goofy about getting attached to men (that I meet in a natural way and not an app), I'd learn more about Wade. I still wouldn't like his world, but I wouldn't mind lying underneath him at night.
