My cell is in my hand, flashlight on high beam as I scan the gaps between the dumpsters.
“Over here.” Miles’ soft call has me sprinting over to him.
Kellan’s been shoved between two dumpsters. His face is a bloodied mess, but his eyes are open. I crouch down.
“Fuck. Kell, can you look at me?”
I shine my light over him, checking for blood elsewhere. It all seems to be centered on his face.
“I think they broke my nose.” His teeth flash in a weak smile.
“Can you stand?”
“Maybe?” He leans forward and I wrap a hand around his arm to steady him as he staggers upright.
“Let me look at your face.” I grasp his chin and turn his head from side to side. “Definitely broke your nose. And you’re going to need stitches. Does anywhere else hurt?”
“Ribs. Hurts to breathe.”
I manhandle him until his arm is over my shoulders and mine is wrapped around his waist.
“Let’s get you to medical.”
Security appears just as we step out of the compound.
“What’s going on here? You’re supposed to be in your dorm.”
“Kellan got jumped.” Miles steps forward. “We’re on our way to medical.”
A flashlight shines in my eyes, then swings to Kellan, and the security guard swears softly.
“Do you know who did it?”
“No.” I answer before Miles does. “I got a text from Kellan telling me he needed help.” The lie flows easily off my tongue. “I asked Miles to help me find him.”
Miles glances at me but doesn’t say anything.
“I think they might have broken his nose and ribs. Can you alert medical?”
The security guard nods and pulls out his radio. “We have a situation around the back of section 1C. I’m bringing three students to medical.”
Chapter 86
Arabella
Me: Where are you?
Me: Please, Sin. I need you.
Me: Why are you ignoring me?
Me: It’s been thirty minutes, and you’re not here.
Me: I’m not leaving the cemetery until you come.
Me: They’re texting me orders. They want me to go to the Ball tomorrow night.
Me: I’m nothing but their puppet.
