We haven't exactly had a lot of downtime, though. My mates may be good at working together to take me apart, sexually, but in all other areas, they're on opposite teams.

A fact that Atina and Li know all too well.

They share another glance before Atina points out, "They might not agree in their reaction. We didn't want to put you in a delicate situation." She pauses, but I can't help thinking that it's mostly for dramatic effect. "Especially when it's about a matter so near and dear to your heart."

I'm torn. Everything in me is telling me that I shouldn't follow them alone, but at the same time, I can't suppress my curiosity.

Planting my feet, I cross my arms. "There must be something you can tell me here."

They both hesitate for a moment. Finally, Atina lets out an exaggerated sigh. She leans in close and lowers her voice to a dramatic whisper. "It's about your friend. Amethyst."

"Amy?" I squeak, too loud but I can't help it. A fierce protectiveness opens up inside me. Quieter, I demand, "What about her?"

Li begrudgingly leans in, too. "We have reason to suspect she may have been responsible for the attack."

A laugh escapes me, but then I dart my gaze between the two of them. Any humor dies away. "You're not joking."

"I'm afraid we're not." Atina tugs out her phone, taps at it a few times and then puts it away. "Li received a tip a couple of days ago."

"When I was digging deeper into Bedrock," he explains.

"Wait, you think she's involved with--"

"We really shouldn't be discussing this here," Atina intones, more aggressively now. She reaches for my hand, but I yank it away.

"Well, I'm not going anywhere else without some kind of explanation."

"We've been amassing evidence," Li tells me. "If we could just show you."

Exasperated, Atina says, "You can't really be so surprised." She raises her brows. "Given her heritage..."

It feels like the color drains out of my face.

"What about her heritage?"

The way they look at each other this time is different. There's a frustration to Li's countenance and an annoyance to Atina's.

She rolls her eyes, full of bravado as she scoffs. "Everyone knows."

Amy herself doesn't know.

"Knows what?" I ask.

And there's that power fluttering within me again. That rustling of my dragon's wings and that warmth emanating from the bracer on my wrist.

This time, it doesn't scare me, though.

Li shoots a glare at Atina. Tone utterly deferential, he looks to me. "Surely, given the nature of the bombing, it must be clear what we are alluding to."

I bite the inside of my lip, hard, unwilling to play into this game or give them any information I'm not 100% sure they don't already have.

"Shadow dragons," Atina hisses, like I'm an idiot. "She's a Shadow Dragon. The bombing was carried out by Shadow Dragons. Their signature was all over it."

I shake my head, hard. "She almost died in that explosion."

"A clever ruse to draw out your own powers," Li suggests. "To expose them, to expose you--"

"To expose me as what."
