His fingers tangle in my hair while he sits up, so we can look into each other’s eyes. My nipples brush his chest when I lift onto my knees and lower onto him, letting him fill me physically and emotionally too. Every part of me. The good, the ugly and all my tiny, fractured pieces.

Vitali’s teeth scrape along his lower lip, masking his grin while he hums. He deposits a series of slow kisses all over my face. “I do.” His hands grip my hips, moving me over him while we kiss.

“You do?” I whisper between kisses.

His eyes gleam.

“The day I found you in that cemetery I knew you were someone important. Somehow my soul knew and that is why I found myself coming back. I had to know how you were and if life wasn’t hard on you. How can I not believe in past lives when I’m certain you were part of every single one of mine.”

My heart does a triple flip in my chest and I smile feeling heat on my cheeks. “You know exactly what to say to make my heart sing, Vitali Solonik. It’s not fair.” I pout.

Vitali laughs, and my smile widens because I love the sound. Then his gaze drops to my lips. “I’m glad I found you, Kadra Parisi. When you came into my life, the world didn’t seem so ugly.”

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

My eyes scan over his face, trying to memorize this moment. His body pressed against mine, the way the moonlight glowed on his face, his scent on my skin, the taste of him still on my tongue, and the happiness wrapped around my insides. Because in the back of my head, the reminder that this all could one day fade and become just a memory still lingers. A memory that lit up every dark corner of my soul with its tenderness and sweet love. “When you came into my life I started looking forward to tomorrow.”

Vitali

It’s almost morning and we just lay on the bed together, head on my chest, my arm wrapped around her as she sleeps soundly in my arms and I felt this strange sense of peace come over me. A feeling I get only when I’m with her.

As I hold the woman of my dreams in my arms, I realize that being with her makes me happy. Makes me more than happy.

“You beat every obstacle in your way. You survived things no one should ever endure. You’ll beat this disease too.” I kiss her head once and then drift off to sleep. The best sleep I have had in years.

All because of her.

Always her.

Chapter 35

KADRA

KNOCKING ON THE DEVIL’S DOOR

“You’ll always be safe

in my heart.” — V

I should’ve known romance and dining weren’t on the agenda tonight when Vitali knocked on my door decked in all black looking like death itself and with a gleam in his stormy gaze that told me all I needed to know. Vitali was out for blood tonight.

“After you.” My crazy Russian steps before me and opens a wooden door motioning for me to enter. The last time we were here a couple of days ago, it didn’t end well for the woman who did her part in trafficking the kids on the street. Vitali ended her miserable existence and made her suffer for all her evil deeds.

Frowning, I take a step forward and stop to look over my shoulder at him. “Why are we here?”

“A gift.” He winks.

I grin at his giddy expression. “A torturing session I hope?”

His lips twitch. “You know me so well, love.”

I laugh.
