“I hope so.”
“Good luck.”
“Thanks.”
I walked back to the car and took her out of the vehicle, pulling her into my arms. “I’m sorry about all of this,” she sobs against my chest.
“Don’t apologize. He did this, not you.”
“Dad, I need you to come away from your wife and go with the gentleman that’s over there with you.”
“Son, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Do you see the man in the gray suit?”
“I do.”
“Go with him right now, and don’t take your wife with you.”
“Do you really expect me to just leave my wife right here?”
“Yes, I do. It’s extremely important; she has her guards with her. Trust me, she’ll be fine.”
“I’ve got him, sir,” Rocco says.
“What is this all about?”My father’s temper is evident on the line, so I let it out.
“Dad, your wife isn’t who you think she is.”
“Are we on this again?”
“Dad, there are three things that you are right now, and I need to know which one they are: you are clueless, a fool in love, or complicit. And I need to know the truth. Either way, someone’s going to get hurt.”
“What the hell are you talking about? Just give me a fucking straight answer.”
“One of your wife’s six ex-husbands tried to kidnap Summer today. She gave him access to my house, but not before notifying someone that he was coming to get her.”
“Did you just say six ex-husbands?”he gasps, the news sinking in.
“I thought you knew.”
“I thought she had two ex-husbands.”
“I tried to warn you.”
“She’s having my baby.”
“Dad-” He cuts me off.
“Oh God. Please don’t tell me there’s something else.”
I hate to break his heart, but he needs to know the truth and let this woman go. “She’s not pregnant.”
“What?”
“According to my investigator, she had a hysterectomy years ago.”
“That fucking bitch. I’m going to kill her,” he thunders.
