What did I say? It’s too soon, Dylan grumbled.
He was still curled, a furry blanket, around Ross. They hadn’t stirred and frankly, Ross had no desire to move yet. The sky was only just starting to lighten, and sunrise was not yet even a pink streak in the sky.
Ross buried his face in Dylan’s fur. They had to return to the ranch. Conversations needed to be had.
His mate snuggled even closer. I don’t wanna go back.
He wanted those conversations even less than Ross did.
Ross, Dylan, we need you back now. It’s important.
We need to shower, Dylan pointed out.
You’ve got one hour.
Okay, okay, Ross snarled.
Do you ever get time out? Dylan muttered.
From the pack or the Cavalry?
Yes.
No. It’s a 24/7 annoyance.
Quit whining and get the hell here. Joe broke the link with a decided snap.
Dylan stood and stretched his legs. Ross lay back and admired his mate’s lithe wolf body. It had felt so warm and comforting around him. Dylan shifted, shivered, and looked down at him. “It’s warmer with fur. Did you bring me anything to wear?”
“I did.” Ross waved a hand to the ATV. “Let’s get dressed and find out what Joe wants, or he’ll send Niles over here to annoy us.”
Dylan tugged on a pair of briefs. “Unless he’s about to reveal my deepest, darkest secrets or stick my entire life back in my head, I don’t care.”
Ross stood and brushed off the dirt which seemed to have gotten into every crevice. “Well, we’re gonna find out sooner or later. At least we have time for a shower. Last one dressed gives the blowjob.”
It took a long time to dress, and they declared it a draw. Mutual blowjobs in the shower sounded like the best plan.
Chapter Nineteen
Well after the hour was up, the mutual blowjobs had gotten…enthusiastic, Ross held Dylan’s hand as they walked into the kitchen. He would stand between Dylan and the world to protect his mate. Or Dylan and the Cavalry.
Eli, Joe, and Niles were huddled over a laptop as Joe pointed at something on the screen. Cal, Milo, and the doc were chatting by the stove.
“What’s wrong?” Ross asked.
They all looked up and to Ross’s surprise, Eli beamed at him.
“You’re late, but there’s nothing wrong. This is good news. Two lots of good news.”
Ross felt a knot of tension ease in his gut, and he swore Dylan breathed for the first time since they’d gotten the order to come to the ranch. “Okay. Shoot.”
Eli focused on his mate. “Dylan, Milo found your birth pack in Ohio.”
Ross heard the breath catch in Dylan’s throat. “My parents?”
“They’re fine and waiting for a phone call from you,” Eli said gently. “They had no idea what to do when you stopped calling. They didn’t know where you lived or worked. They thought you were dead.”
Dylan winced. “Mom’s gonna kill me. I know that up here.” He tapped his forehead.
