“What?”

“I love you, Laura,” I openly remind her in the light of day.

She smooths my lapel even as her eyes hold mine. “I don’t care if it’s fast. I love you too, Liam.”

I press my lips against her forehead and then her lips. “Have fun with Bailey. Later, we’ll drive you home so you can pack a bag.”

Her body freezes. Crap. “Are you moving me in?”

“Let’s start with you staying tonight,” I clarify quickly.

“That works.”

A whoosh of breath rushes out of me. Then she alleviates all my fears that I might be pushing too far too fast when she admits, “It’s not that I don’t want to be here with you both, Liam. It’s that I want to give Bailey time to adjust to you and me. I want everything with you.”

I’m about to reply when I hear Bailey shout, “Laura? Can you help me?”

She pulls back and I miss her in my arms already. “Coming, sweetheart!”

“And with that, I’m out.”

“Have a good day. Save my family from some unholy audit.”

“Well, since you asked so nicely.” I wink at her before I head toward the garage.

If I had known that was the last thing I’d have said to Laura coherently, I would have reminded her to take care of Bailey.

I’m certain of it.

Chapter

Fifty-Five

It started as a quick errand to my house. Bailey pleaded with me to see Cia again, so I contacted Jilly for another beach day. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my suit with me. Knowing Kalie was in court and Grace was fitting someone with a new hand, I didn’t want to disturb my cousins. I sent Liam a quick text.

Laura:

Bailey and I are running to my house. Need to grab my suit.

Laura:

We decided to go swimming with Cia and Jilly.

Liam:

:) Be safe. I love you both.

Laura:

I love you too. Wish you were here.

Liam:

Me too. Your uncle is a sadist.

Laura:

Tell me something I didn’t grow up knowing.
