“I’m not going to wait at home for him to call me. I’m not going to be his booty call.”

“Again, all good things to know. Not only for you but for him,” Layla said. “Also, Ara and I both agreed, the man didn’t need to bring you to Buenos Aires to try and get you to sleep with him. He wanted to take you there, he wanted to have this time with you. I think you matter more to him than you’re letting yourself believe. I get that, it’s hard to be that vulnerable, but if you are, the rewards could be amazing.”

“Yeah, yeah, you’re right,” I hadn’t realized how much I needed to talk to my friend until she had called. It was like she knew I needed her advice. It didn’t surprise me; she had been there for me since we were kids and always had a six sense when either Ara or I was in trouble.

“I’m always right,” she teased.

“Well, I don’t know about that. How about you give the best advice and I appreciate it?”

“I can live with that. Good luck with the rest of your trip and with Dax. I’ll let Ara know to plan on drinks and dinner tomorrow night, but if things change, don’t worry.”

“Thank you. You’re the best,” I turned around to see Dax standing in the doorway. He had slipped on his shirt when he took the phone call but I knew he wore nothing underneath it. He looked as sexy as I had ever seen him with his hair a little rumpled from sleep and my hands and his eyes still hazy from sleep.

“Who is it?” he mouthed.

“Layla,” I said.

He nodded and looked as if he was going to leave the room, he stopped in the doorway and then turned around. He slowly walked toward me and I gave him a questioning look. Layla might have said something but I didn’t hear her. All I could think about, all I could see, all I cared about was Dax.

When he was about five feet from me, he braced his legs far apart and gave me a knowing smile. He brought his hands to his shirt and slowly started to unbutton it. Dax was giving me a strip tease.

I laughed, “Layla, something just came up. I’m going to have to go,”

“Something came up, huh? I don’t even want to know what it is. Well, I hope I know what it is,” she said with a laugh.

“Not going to comment on that. Love you, see you tomorrow,” I said and hung up the phone.

I put my phone on the bedside table next and tilted my head to look at Dax. “That might have been a very important conversation. It wasn’t kind of you to try and interrupt.”

“Was I interrupting? I didn’t know,” he teased and walked towards me. As he did, the shirt fell unchecked behind him.

My eyes roamed over his body as I brought my hands to his hips. “You knew exactly what you were doing. How would you feel if I did that to you when you were on a call?”

“The luckiest man in the entire world,” he said and brought his lips down to mine.

Chapter 32

Dax

It was always a bit hard to come back from a vacation. I had loved traveling since I was a child, the chance to see new things, try new foods, and get out of my comfort zone. It gave me a chance to spend time with my father without the distraction of work or anyone else. He had instilled in me the need to seek, explore, try new things, and it had carried with me into adulthood.

I had never thought I would find someone I wanted to travel with, who had that same interest and thirst for what else the world could show to us. I had taken some girlfriends on vacation and it had always ended in disaster. I had been a little worried that the same thing was going to happen with Ella.

Not only had she proved me wrong, again, but she showed me how great it could be being on vacation with someone. Really being with someone. The week had been incredible and I hadn’t wanted it to end which was why we were late getting to the plane.

“It isn’t like it can fly out without us,” I said to Ella as we headed to the tarmac.

“True, but it isn’t nice to inconvenience others and aren’t there other planes that need to leave and might either be waiting for us or get priority over us if we are late?”

“We aren’t that late. And now we have empanadas for the flight home,” I said and held up the bag.

Ella smiled at me and then got out of the car. I walked over to her side and took her hand as we walked toward the plane. She squeezed my hand and I smiled over at her and my heart jumped a little. There were times like that when I would look at her and know that she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and that I longed to do everything I could to keep her.

“What?” she asked under my gaze.

“Nothing just admiring your beauty,” I said.

She blushed and turned away from me almost as if she didn’t want to hear the words. She had a hard time taking a compliment which I found endearing. It was like she had no idea how beautiful she was or the hold she had over me. I had been infatuated with her before we had gone on our trip, I had become in awe of her as we had worked together, and over the last week together, I had fallen completely and totally in love with her.
