I dug my cell phone out of my pocket and stared at it, like I could magically make it ring. “Do you think they made it out okay?”

Lincoln sat up and buried his face in his palms. “I hope so.”

I tapped my phone against my leg and continued my trek around the room.

Lincoln grasped my arm when I got close to the bed and pulled me down next to him. “Worrying isn’t going to make time move any faster.”

I closed my eyes as I huffed out a laugh. “I wish it did.”

He kissed my cheek. “Me too.”

I nuzzled into him as he pulled me close. “How long do you think we’ll have to wait?”

It was a dumb question. The trip would be a few hours. The group had to go through the woods, over the rough rocky terrain and then along the riverbed for at least five miles, as humans. We couldn’t risk shifting, not with the FBI around.

Sheriff Adam was barely holding it together. A stranger who didn’t know us would probably shoot first and ask questions later.

At least the sheriff had helped. He had placed a few cars for us, so once we got out we’d have vehicles to go the rest of the way. The plan was to meet up at a spot about an hour from here on the morning of the attack. We just had to get everyone there.

A task that was proving more and more difficult by the day.

It’s going to work. Have faith.

Hope is the only thing stronger than fear!

I let the words echo in my mind. It was true. And we had to believe.

The world shimmered, and I gripped Lincoln’s hand tighter as Sawyer appeared before us.

His eyes were wide and the bags under his eyes made me think he hadn’t slept in a week.

Lincoln and I shot to our feet both of us putting a hand on either of his forearms.

I cupped his cheek with my free hand. “What is it? What’s wrong?”

I held my breath.

Sawyer exhaled and dropped his chin to his chest. “Dad is bringing in more reinforcements.”

Lincoln shook his head and scrubbed a hand over his face. “Who? There are no more packs nearby.”

Sawyer met his brother’s gaze as his brows pinched together. “It’s not a pack. It’s half breeds. He’s promised them a place in the pack if they help us.”

There couldn’t be that many half wolves could there? Judging by Sawyer’s frown, there were. “How many are we talking?” I tucked my bottom lip between my teeth.

Sawyer raked a hand through his hair. “I’m not sure the number. Dad says we’ll have close to a thousand men once they arrive.”

Lincoln grunted. “And when is that?”

I collapsed on the bed and then flopped back to look up at the ceiling. “Before we get there, I’m guessing.”

Sawyer sank down next to me and took my hand. “Dad said five days, but it could be sooner.”

It was Lincoln’s turn to pace. “Then we move up our timeframe.”

“No.” My response was instant. “We can’t. We put our plan into motion. We have to do it the right way. There is no room for error on our part. Rushing into this makes us more likely to make a mistake.”

I puffed out my cheeks and put my arm over my forehead. “I didn’t realize there were so many half wolves.”
