Suddenly Brock was next to me, his arm going around my waist as he tucked me into his side. He’d done that many times before, but somehow this felt different. My fingers landed on the expensive fabric, taking in the sheen, the texture, as if this was a complete stranger beside me, not my boss.
My boyfriend.
My heart felt like it was dry kindling right as a match was tossed onto it. It set alight with a whoosh I could almost hear as he gazed down at me.
“Don’t get me a million suits,” I told him. “Just get more of these for you.” I looked him up and down. “Come to work wearing these and I’ll find every excuse in the book to come and ‘visit’ you in your office.”
“Gag.” Millie smirked when I turned to face her. “So, I guess that’s decided. Brock wins and gets to go to the party as Jamie’s date.”
“What did you say?” Hunter made a show of trying to remember. “Three man enter?—”
“One man leaves.” She pointed at Brock. “Jamie has chosen.”
“You only got it half right.” I knew from Hunter’s grin that Millie was going to hate this. “Three men enter…”
She frowned, struggling to work out what that meant, right up until a look of horror crossed her face.
“You… They…”
I didn’t know what to say. The relationship dynamic between us wasn’t what any of us had planned, but in that moment, I knew it was the right one. I nodded slowly, to Brock, to Hunter, and Hayden, and Millie caught that with a groan.
“OK, the need to bleach my brain aside, who’s going to tell Mum and Dad what their baby boys are up to, because we’re due at their place tomorrow night.”
Chapter 54
Hayden
I’d submitted to the suit fitting with as much grace as I could muster, but what I really wanted wasn’t new threads. She stood outside the changing room, Jamie and my sister’s laughter filtering in through the walls as Mac went to work.
“Almost done,” the tailor said, shooting my reflection a look.
She knew, everyone knew, where I wanted to be. By Jamie’s side, standing close enough to smell her shampoo in my nose, to touch, to feel her body against mine. My mouth on hers, that's what I needed most, and when Mac eased the suit off my shoulders, I thanked her and then went in search of my girl. She was standing with Millie and Brock, tucked into my brother’s side, when I approached.
Jamie turned towards me as soon as I got close, somehow able to sense my presence. My eyes locked with hers and her smile faded when she saw what my gaze contained. My hand was in hers and I was drawing her closer, when Brock’s grip tightened. He shot me a knowing look, making clear I could make my move, but that he wasn’t going anywhere.
“Jamie…” I said. Millie stopped talking, frowned slightly, then made a nauseated sound, but I didn’t care. Jamie, that’s who I was focussed on. “I need?—”
But she knew. Her arm snaked out, wrapping around my neck and drawing me down. When her lips grazed mine I made a small sound of hunger, then took over, crushing her mouth with mine. Kisses, so many kisses, but they never seemed to be enough, so I went back for more until my sister interrupted.
“And that’s my cue to leave.”
“What?” I liked the way Jamie blinked, as if trying to reorientate herself when she pulled away from me. It was somehow comforting to know she was just as off balance. “No, stay. We haven’t caught up much lately?—”
“Because you’ve found happiness.” While I saw some sadness in Millie’s eyes, she smiled at Jamie. “This is what I wanted all along. I mean I didn’t totally think this through. If I saw you make out with one guy while another holds you, I’d be cheering you on, but seeing my brothers do that? It’s kinda nauseating.”
“So we’ll stop.”
Part of me cursed my sister because Jamie pulled away, but anyone that knew and cared about the two of them would never try to keep them apart, so I let my girl’s fingers trail through mine.
“No, you won’t. You’ll go and have hot monkey…” Millie gagged and then swallowed hard. “Sex and…” Another horrendous gagging sound. “And have multiple?—”
“I get the idea,” Jamie said, stopping her cold.
“But tomorrow.” My baby sister pointed her finger at me and Brock. “At Mum and Dad’s, Jamie’s all mine. I knew I’d have to sort out a custody arrangement with one of you, I just didn’t anticipate all three. You know you’re gonna have to tell our parents, right?”
“We’ve got this covered.” Brock was pulling the big brother card, calming everyone down with just a few words. “Jamie hangs out with you tomorrow night and me during the day at work?—”
“And us tonight.” Hunter emerged from the changing rooms with a smug smile.
