“Look, I like Freya, and I want to see wherethis goes, but I don’t want you and her to have any trouble.”

“Wow, you really did turn into a nice guy, didn’t you?” Adele asked.

He glared at Adele.

She rolled her eyes. “You knowwhat I mean. You turned intothe good guy to the right people. I remember when you’d have takenwhat you wanted and said fuck it to all the problems it wouldcause.”

“I have taken what I wanted, only now I dealwith the consequences. I don’t want you and Freya to be …fighting.”

“Me and Freya are good. Trust me, I should have listened to herlong ago. I’ve got no problem with you and Freya enjoying eachother. It will be good. I don’t like that Freya just works anddoesn’t do anything fun or exciting. This is going to be totallyfun. Don’t tell her I know.”

He frowned. “I’m not going to lie to her,and I’m certainly not going to hurt her.”

Adele sighed. “Fine. I’m glad you’re notgoing to hurt her. Please, make sure she has somefun, though, right? Sheis always so serious, and I could never get her to let her hairdown, you know? She needs to, and trust me, life sucks enough as itis.”

There was a sudden banging on the door andAdele smiled.

“I’ll let you get back to whoever you’redoing.”

“See you later,” Adele said.

She was gone before he’d even left herproperty.

He and Adele hadn’t been serious, but nowthat he had resolved any potential problems between sisters, hedidn’t see a reason to hold back. He didn’t just like Freya, he’dfallen in love with her a long time ago. There was never a time toact on those feelings, until now.

Freya belonged to him, and there was no way he was going tolet her go. He’d had a taste, and he wanted so muchmore.

Chapter Four

Freya licked the frosting off thepalette knife. Chocolatewas one of her favorites. In fact, chocolate fudge cake with fudgyfrosting was so good. Her mouth watered from the lick. She was sotempted to dig right in and have a slice, but it always tastedbetter to allow the frosting to set a bit. This was the torturepart—waiting for thecake.

Her thoughts kept returning to Maverick. He was a guy she shouldn’t be thinking about, yet he was the only person she couldn’tget out of her mind. Lunch with him had been so much fun, even ifit was talking about sandwich combinations. Never in a millionyears did she think she’d be talking sandwiches with MaverickLavin.

The temptation heightened to have a sliceof cake. She was taking it to her mother’s tomorrow for Sundaylunch, but they wouldn’t miss a slice. Maybe her fatherwould, but he’d forgiveher.

Just as she reached for the knife, therewas a knock on her front door. Putting the blade down, she wipedher hands on a towel as she made her way toward the front door. Shedidn’t even bother to check who was knocking on her door at eight atnight.

Maverick was there.

She didn’t know what to do or say, then as he stepped overthe threshold, she tilted her head back, he reached out, and kissedher. With her door wide open, for anyone to see. She didn’t care,as his lips touched hers, and she lost all thought. All she caredabout was Maverick.

He stepped over the threshold and kickedher door closed. If that had been anyone else, she’d have giventhem a piece of her mind, but Maverick was a differentman entirely. Both of his handscupped her face, and she loved it as he ravished her lips. Histongue traced across her lips and then plunged into her mouth, making her ache for him. She’d gone from wanting to dive mouthfirst into a rich, dark chocolate cake, to just kissing thisman.

One of his hands sank into her hair, andthe other glided down her back, over her hip, and then curvedaround toward her ass, gripping her. He pulled her in close, andshe felt the hardness of his cock as he pressed againsther.

“Tell me to fuck off,” he said.

“No.”

He trailed his lips down her neck, goingtoward her pulse, and if she’d even been tempted to push him away, that certainly wasn’t going to happen now, because the pleasure wasout of this world.

She closed her eyes, whimpered, and thencried out as he nipped at that tender flesh. Her neck was sosensitive. She was pretty sure she’d give him whatever hewanted as long as henever stopped kissing her there.

He tugged at her shirt and stopped kissingher long enough toremove her shirt. Before she knew what was happening, she’d alreadylost her bra, pants, and panties, and they’d somehow moved into hersitting room.

She was pleased that when she got home, she’d already closed her curtains. At night, she did this before itgot dark, as she hated staring out the window, looking into thedark at her reflection. She hated the dark, and that hadn’t changed, even as she’d gottenolder.

Maverick pressed her over the sofa, andshe felt him thrust against her. He was still fully dressed, while she was all butnaked. She still had on her socks, but everything else was on thefloor. The man was a master.
