I turned around and picked up the phone off my bed. “How’s that?”
“If you didn’t sell off everything at auction, you wouldn’t be so in demand. Kim made a stupid amount of money on that piece.”
It didn’t matter.
It was the past.
I should just let it go.
“You still there?”
“Yeah.”
“She’s in breach of contract. I can go after her.”
“Contact Donovan. See if I can buy it back from him.”
“I can tell you right now he won’t let you buy it back. He’s been hounding me for one of your pieces for years.”
“Just do it.”
“Dev, he’s not going?—”
“Maeve. Just do it. I don’t care how much you have to ask for it.”
She growled. “Donovan has more money than God. Kim should be the one to deal with this. She’s the one in breach of contract. I know, because I wrote it.”
“It’s not worth it. She’ll tie me up with lawyers and bullshit forever. I just want the piece.”
“Donovan won’t give it up, I’m telling you.”
“He’s a smart businessman.”
She sighed. “You’d think so. But he also is as stubborn as you are. You should have just done the commission piece for him?—”
“Just get the piece, Maeve. I gotta go.”
I hung up before she could argue with me. God save me from stubborn women. And now I had to go deal with another one. I just hoped my sister would be easier to deal with.
SEVEN
I drove into our small parking garage located at the back of the building. It was definitely a perk of living in The Heights. This section of Kensington Square was up and coming and parking was at a premium. I found my numbered spot and backed in. It was easier getting out in the morning that way. Even if it made me nervous every time I did it.
Better than a fender bender in the morning. I already had enough car drama in my life.
My heart sank as I spotted Amberly walking toward the door to our building. I had to face her eventually. I grabbed my bag and jogged to meet her. “Amberly!”
She turned, her eyes puffy. Oh, God. Was the damage even worse than I thought?
“Hey.”
“Is everything okay?”
She sniffled. “Not really.”
“Look, I’ll definitely be buying you a kickass bedding set to make up for the one I ruined. Any color you want. We can go shopping this weekend.”
Her green eyes filled. “I won’t be needing it.” She rushed forward and threw herself into my arms.
