Oh. Ohhhhh. “I think that’s the corniest thing I’ve ever heard.”
He palmed my face and pushed as he rolled out from under me. Grabbing his shirt, he re-dressed while I pouted at him covering up all the delicious muscles.
“Aaaand you ruined it. Come on, Treasure, give me a minute to pack up camp, then I’ll walk you back to town.”
Bruin
Where the fuck had they stashed my bike? If someone had stolen it—ignoring the fact it was made from stolen parts in the first place—while I was stuck on this job, I was gonna be pissed. I’d already searched all around the gas station and the diner. The only place left was the woods behind the motel, and I’d been avoiding that since a deceptively kind waitress at the diner had told me it was perfectly safe. I’d stopped believing that bitch after she told me the apple pie was fresh out of the oven and it arrived stale as fuck.
You don’t mess with a man’s pie like that.
Creeping into the woods, I walked parallel to the motel, one line of trees deep. I doubted Lindsay would’ve gone in much farther alone. Just far enough so the bike wouldn’t be immediately visible from the motel.
As I meandered between the trees, my phone vibrated in my pocket. Ah, fuck. I’d ignored the last three calls.
Let’s get this over with.
“You know, Sandra’s gonna get jealous if you keep calling me like this.”
Kevin snarled into the phone, forcing me to hold it away from my ear. “How fucking long does it take to put a bullet in someone’s head?”
I waited a moment to make sure he was done with his temper tantrum, before bringing the phone back to my ear. “Well, you know me. I thought I’d take my time. See the sights, absorb the history of the town and all that. There’s some fascinating stuff here.”
“Oh, yeah? Like some bitch’s magic cunt?”
My moment of surprised silence was enough for him.
“Thought so.” He chuckled, and the sound made my fist clench and fantasies about ramming it through his skull danced through my head. “Going soft, brother? Got some new loyalties?”
“Never,” I growled through gritted teeth.
“Good. Now that’s cleared up, lemme make this nice and easy for you. You deliver her body, or I’ll come with the boys to collect it myself. And while I’m visiting Spells Hollow, I’ll have my old Enforcer dealt with. See, he’s always been sore he didn’t get my patch and—”
“You done listening to yourself talk?” I snapped. “Fucking relax, Kev. I’ll bring you the body on time, like I’ve always done.”
“You better, or else I’ll—”
I tapped my phone and immediately turned it off, ending the call before he could hit me with a well-rehearsed threat that would obviously leave me shaking in my boots. Idiot. I was the only reason he hadn’t lost his position years ago, and he thought he could try to threaten me? Fucking cute.
It left me in an awkward position, though. He wanted Harlow dead, and I…
“I really thought you’d be more observant of someone following you.”
Despite nearly shitting my heart outta my dick, I held onto my composure as I turned around to see Kylen leaning against a tree, arms folded across his chest. Fuck. How much had he heard?
“Aww, did you miss me?”
“Apparently not as much as your boss.”
Double fuck.
“Kev?” I scoffed. “He’s a pushover. Shoulda seen when Harlow took him out. She didn’t even need to use her magic.”
“So that’s why he’s using you to kill her?”
Goddamn it! I don’t need this right now.
“Why don’t we talk about something else?”
