When my eyes open on Wednesday morning, I smile at the sight of Ashley. Who’s already smiling at me.

“Morning,” I say through a yawn.

“Morning, sweetheart,” he says as he rises to kiss me.

I hum against his lips, and it makes him chuckle.

“Something funny?” I ask coyly.

“Not at all,” he says as he sits on the bed. “I just love how you react to me.”

“All the time?” I giggle.

“No,” he laughs. “But I don’t mind it when you butt heads with me. Nobody likes a pushover.”

“And a pushover I am not, mister,” I nod.

“Agreed,” he says as he tilts his head at me. “Unless I’m the one pushing you over so I can fuck your sweet pussy from behind.”

“Ashley,” I breathe. “You’re insatiable.”

“Seems like it,” he grins.

In mere moments, I am being a pushover as he takes me from behind. His motion starts out nice and slow, but as our pleasure builds, he starts to let himself go. And God, do I ever love it because I hate it when a man treats me like I’m going to break. As the sound of his hips slapping my ass grows louder, I do what I can to encourage him.

“Yes,” I moan. “Harder, Ashley. Fuck me harder. I want everything.”

“God damn, sweetheart,” he growls. “You’re so fucking perfect for me.”

With that, he gives me exactly what I want. And when my body explodes with pleasure, he fucks me right through that orgasm and into a second one as he reaches around my waist to rub my clit. It feels so damn good that my arms buckle, and I face plant onto the mattress. When Ashley comes, his hips jerk against me as he collapses onto me.

“Fuck,” he breathes. “So fucking good.”

I hum in agreement. When we’re finally able, I let him pull me off the bed and into the shower. After we’re dressed for our day, I finally ask him what his early phone call was about. He sighs and explains about Diamond being in California, but I don’t understand why that upsets him. So, I ask.

“The contacts he has out there aren’t the most upstanding people,” he explains. “And if he brings them back here to Cleveland, we’re going to have a hell of a lot of trouble when he starts trying to take back the territory he’s lost. Especially if Venom takes advantage of his absence and claims even more. It’s going to get ugly.”

I take a breath to ask if he thinks that’ll take the heat off me, but my words die in my throat when my phone rings. Frowning, I pick it up and look at the screen. Then I sigh before I answer. In less than five minutes, I climb into Ashley’s lap and kiss him.

“Looks like I’m working tonight,” I tell him.

“What?Why?”

“Terry on my sister shift just lost his father,” I tell him. “They need coverage.”

“So,” he frowns as he recalls my schedule, “you’re going to work a forty-eight?”

“Looks like it,” I shrug.

Something changes in his expression. Then he nods, as if he’s made a decision of some sort.

“I’ll be working then, too.”

“But why?”

“Until Diamond is behind bars, I’m not willing to take any chances with your life, Lorna,” he says in a low voice. “You’re my future, now. And I’m going to do all I can to protect that.”
