“You know it, V,” she took her hand. “You okay?”
“Yeah, I just need to get out of here,” she turned to Doug who followed them. “Will you take me back to your place?”
“Absolutely,” he replied, no thought needed.
Michelle yelled out to her. “Wait, V.”
“I have to go, I’ll call you.”
Tears were already starting, and she wanted to get out of there fast. Even though it looked like Jack wasn’t chasing her down any time soon.
“What’s going on between you two?” Doug asked as they drove back to his place.
Vanessa had her head back on the head rest behind her. “Nothing Doug but please, I don’t want to talk about Jack.”
He opened his door for her, and she walked inside his place. It was the same as she remembered.
“Do you want something to drink?”
She shook her head. “No, if you don’t mind, can I just crash on your couch?”
He smiled. “Vanessa, you can have my bed and I’ll sleep on the couch.”
“No, please, I don’t mind.” She took off her shoes, and plopped her heart broken, drunk self on the sofa. She felt Doug place a blanket over top of her and she could have sworn he said something to her, but she fell asleep before she could ask him.
