Our bodies are entangled, and our movements are fast. We climax simultaneously, and I roll on my back and put my hand under my head. She then lies her head on my chest. I run my hand through her hair, and we lie in silence.
“That was perfect,” she says as she looks at me, eyes full of love.
“That was just the beginning, Lily.”
“Will you leave now?” she suddenly asks as she grabs my hand.
“No, Lily. I won't. I'll stay with you until you fall asleep.”
“That's not what I meant. Stay here tonight. With me,” she says, and her cheeks flush bright red.
I can't resist her. Not when she is begging for me, not when she is looking so innocent. I can't hold back any longer. I'm aching and desperate. I need her. I can't resist her.
“I am here with you, Lily. And I will always be here. And that means how I can't hurt you, not even for my pleasures,” I tell her again, lightly stroking her soft hair.
“I guess today has been so hectic that I needed an escape.”
“Go to sleep, Lily,” I say, and laugh a little. I look at her angelic face until she falls asleep. I need to keep her here in my penthouse and focus on work.
Now that I am rid of Demetrius and his little tricks, I need to focus on the real issue, that is, the FDA and the accusations.
When I make it to the office, neither Nick nor Alfred is there. I can't help but feel uneasy. I might be able to read minds, but I can't predict the future. That is a rare power that is only reserved for ancient dynasties of vampires. However, I can still feel that something awful is bound to happen.
The only person, or should I say creature, who is able and allowed to deal with such complications is Perry, my attorney. His number is on speed dial, and it takes him two rings to answer the phone.
“Hello, Perry. Lunch today at two.”
“I'll be there,” he says.
The call ends abruptly. The guy is too serious and focused on his job. He's the best attorney in town, and that's exactly why I hired him.
I can name hundreds of complications that I have personally had, and he was the one to solve them. I only hope he can save Rothschild Pharmaceuticals from collapsing.
I miss Lily already. When I try to call her, it takes too long to ring. It seems to be an eternity. After three rings, the phone goes straight to voicemail. I am assuming she is still asleep. She needs to rest well.
“Hey, Lily, this is Ethan. Just calling to check up on you. I miss you and I just wanted to remind you that I will protect you for life,” I say as I stare at the roses she's placed on my desk. They are still fresh.
Lunchtime can't come fast enough, and I spend most of the morning staring at the clock. My mind is racing, and it won't stop thinking about a lot of things. What if Demetrius is lying? He can't be lying.
As I was heading back to the car last night, I heard him warning me to be careful of my surroundings. There's no way he would say something like that if he were not being truthful.
“How was the encounter with Demetrius?” Perry's voice asks, he is finally at the restaurant.
“Unique is the only word suitable to describe the encounter,” I say as we shake hands, then I sit back down.
“That sounds promising.”
“Indeed.”
“Tell me about it.”
“I have no time. We have other important things to discuss.”
“Such as?” he asks.
“The FDA, of course. Did you get anywhere, Perry? I am counting on you.”
“There is still time, Mr. Rothschild. Don't worry. Everything will be okay. It's just a small setback. You will win the case. You always do.”
