“I don’t care,” I replied, bending down to kiss him again.
He needed no other convincing: he hastily unzipped his shorts and yanked them down while I adjusted my dress, ensuring that the fabric concealed everything happening within. Then I felt his tip underneath me, pointed straight up by his fingers.
“Hurry,” he breathed.
I lowered myself onto him, taking pleasure in just how wet I was, making our joining as easy as two lubricated machine parts fusing together for the first time.
There was no time to savor how amazing he felt—and he did feel amazing. I immediately rolled my hips back and forth, riding him on the chair with the sand between my toes. Landon let out a long moan and grabbed my waist, his hands guiding me up and down, demanding that I keep going.
Everything was fluid and perfect there on the beach. No distractions. No family. No stupid fucking lie that we had to tell everyone. Just a man, and a woman, and the undeniable chemistry between us finally being explored.
“Joanna…” he breathed.
I bent down to kiss him again, my tongue flicking out to meet his lips. That drove him wild—he sat upright, keeping me in his lap while kissing me more ferociously. The two of us ground together like that, and he cupped my breast through my shirt, bending his head down to kiss the cleavage popping out of my dress. I craned my head back and moaned, and began riding him faster than before.
For once, I wasn’t in my head. I didn’t have room for thoughts. There was only my body, and Landon’s beneath me, and the beautiful, friction-filled way they came together right now.
I don’t know which of us came first. His eyes widened, and his mouth hung open in a silent cry. My own body was being electrified at that moment, pleasure growing and spreading and conquering until there was nothing left. Then I was screaming, and Landon was too, as we stared into each other’s eyes while we came together, the sounds of our love carried away by the soft rush of the ocean waves.
We clung to each other for a while, unwilling—and maybe unable—to let go. Landon’s cock softened, but the rest of his body was hard and sturdy. I felt safe there, on his lap and in his arms. I was unemployed, and my near future was a giant fucking question mark. But for a few minutes on the beach, none of it mattered.
For a few minutes, we were perfect together.
“You’ve gotten good at pretending,” Landon finally rumbled.
I pulled back and looked deeply into his eyes. “Trust me. There’s no faking what I just felt.”
He grinned. “Same.”

When we reached the resort, everyone was gone from the beach where the fight had happened. But we could hear noise by the pool; it sounded like the entire party was there.
“I think we can avoid them if we go around the jerk shack to the left,” I said.
Landon shook his head. “I have a better idea. Do you trust me?”
“For the sake of simplicity, let’s say yes.”
“Then follow my lead. Smile and laugh.”
He held my hand and we walked up the path from the beach to the resort. The route to our suite took us right by the pool… and sure enough, the dozen members of the wedding party were all there having drinks. Slowly, they all grew quiet as they saw us coming. The only ones missing seemed to be Austin and Theo.
“Did you seriously do that in college?” Landon asked me with a chuckle.
I made myself laugh along with him. “I was young! I didn’t know chemistry would be hard!”
The two of us giggled as we walked by in full view of the party. It wasn’t hard; we were still baked from the edibles, so the laughter was genuine. Every pair of eyes followed us until we were out of sight.
“Nice,” I said. “They’ll see that everything is fine between us.”
“Step one of my plan is complete. Time for step two.”
“Which is?” I asked.
“I need to send a group text to everyone.”
