“Really? Who’s that?”
“Someone I haven’t seen in more than forty years. Just like your girl Angelina, she was a small sized woman, but her will, and her wolf were a sight to behold.” He scratched at his beard, and just stared at Angelina with nostalgia, and regrets of things not said.
He might have been looking at her, but I knew all he saw was that woman.
“Where’s she now?” I am intrigued. I want to know who this Lycan woman was, that she still had a grip on him through a distance of twenty years. From the way he spoke about her it wasn’t driven by just romantic feelings, but by fondness and admiration too.
It was mind boggling. After all this time? I wonder.
Jon has two sons, both older than I am. They spent more time away in their mother’s pack, eager to find new connections, like most Lycans did when they didn’t find their mates in their own packs.
“I don’t know. After she lost her closest family to an attack, she moved away to be with the person she loved. It should have been beautiful, but it was a very different times” That seems to be all he wants to say on the subject, so I just mull it over for a while, before letting it go.
She might remind him of someone from deep in his past, but Angelina was my Angelina, and I doubt there has ever been anyone quite like her.
Jonathan leaves the mess hall, but not before stopping by Angelina to run his hand over her hair and ruffling it.
“We’ll be live in a couple of hours. You ready Kiddo?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be. I have literally never felt better or stronger in my life. Trust me, I’m hitting this out the park.” Angelina declares to cheers from the juveniles around her.
She is excited about the tryouts for sentinel, and I am excited for her too. I know she has grown strong and fast enough to almost put me to shame.
It’s amazing. First, she had all my lieutenants singing her praises, and now she has half my pack in love with her. It’s a bloody coup!
“Hey Lake.” Surrounded by the rest of my sentinels now, I still hear her call out my lieutenant's name, which has me whipping my head back to look at her. I tried to keep it subtle, but I know anyone watching me can see it plain as day.
“Do your lieutenant job. You’re supposed to be making my life easier.” I grumble as I gently push Elijah’s hand; another of my lieutenants, out of my line of sight so I can see as well as I hear her.
He barks out a laugh, before adjusting his body and shaggy brown hair so I can see her without being seen in return.
“Got you covered, Alpha.” He continues his laughter, and I chuckle as well.
“Hello Angelina. Are you ready for today?” Lake calls in reply to her, weaving his way through the crowded hall.
“You can bet your sweet face on it.” Angelina grins. “you know what? How about we make a bet?” She taunts, and to my surprise, Lake; the man who wants to bet on everything, declines.
“No way in hell!”
Angelina laughs at him, and Lake comes to where I am seated.
“Your girl is a hoot. She has all the juveniles eating out the palm of her hand.” He laughs as he comes to sit beside me. He might find it funny but I did not.
I do actually find it funny, mostly because I was thinking the same thing. But I’ll chew glass before I admit that, especially to him.
“Hope you’ve both had a talk about strays, ‘cause she might be bringing a couple home with her.” He continues, annoying the hell out of me, but I refrain from gritting my teeth. The trick with Lake was to act unaffected, like you could barely hear him.
That is exactly what I do.
“Have you had a talk with her about getting back your money?”
Sierra pops the question from down the table, green eyes glinting with wicked amusement, as she flipped back her blood red hair.
“What is she talking about Lake? I would like to hear about this” I say, wanting to give him as much grief as possible.
“Me too.” Elijah smiles.
“You were all there. All the sentinels. Sierra and Elijah were betting too Alpha.” Lake petulantly confesses, ready to drag everyone down with him.
