Amir turned and faced them all, sending them a small wave and smile. “Hello, everyone.”
Davina, followed by the others, walked to the edge of the island. Amir remained still with his legs wrapped in a bubble of ocean water, even as they neared the unfinished brick panel.
The Captain noticed the way his eyes quickly caught Leilani’s before returning his gaze to Davina. She tilted her head as she scrunched her eyebrows. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing,” Amir quickly replied with a shaky breath, his afro hair bobbing.
“I don’t believe you. What’s wrong, Amir?”
Amir scanned the Island Protectors who stood side by side with one another, waiting for his response.
“I made a mistake,” he confessed. “And I can’t bear to hold onto it any longer.”
Davina stepped forward. “What mistake?”
“I betrayed you, Davina. I betrayed myself and my King,” Amir explained vaguely.
She knew that Amir was incapable of being a traitor. Because, unlike Isaiah, Amir was good. There was goodness in the sincere despair that marked his face.
“I deserve this. I’m a fool, I never should’ve—” He cut himself off as he looked between Leilani and Davina.
Fear ran down her spine, she took another step toward the edge of the island.
“Amir, please, talk to us. We can talk about it and help you out.” Davina held out her hand for the Chief Leader. Amir turned toward the shield of darkness that stood yards away from Castellum.
Davina’s eyes widened.
“You are such a good person, Davina, but don’t allow anyone to take advantage of the goodness in you.”
“The King wouldn’t want you to do this, Amir,” Davina exclaimed.
“No, he does not. But I cannot withstand holding onto my regret any longer,” Amir cried, wiping away his tears with the back of his hand.
“He can help you, he’ll take away the weight on your shoulders. Believe me!” Davina said.
“No one can help me,” he said softly.
“I will not let you do this, Amir. I will fight you, if need be,” Davina uttered, climbing onto the unfinished brick wall.
“You can’t stop me,” Amir muttered before eyeing the Captain with solemn eyes.
“Try me.”
Amir flicked his wrist. In an instant, huge waves roared into the air. Davina stood still as the unfinished wall became fractured by the waves that crashed against it. Through the howling of the waves, Beacon, Snow, Caleb, Cara, and Valerie yelled for Amir.
Ron pulled her away from the water and into his arms, she would’ve been thrust into the ocean had it not been for him.
“Amir!” Davina screeched. Ron hugged her torso as she cried for Amir to come back. His figure grew smaller as he used his powers to transport him closer to the wall of darkness.
Everyone had seen the strength of Raven’s power. Nothing but death came when it came to the blackness of her heart. “Please, don’t do this! Amir! We want to help!”
“He’s gone, love.” Ron sighed. He pulled her into his arms as she watched Amir touch the shield.
A tear slipped from her eyes while Amir’s ashes fell into the ocean. Davina sobbed, holding onto Ron for support. He held onto her and rubbed her back as she sighed once again.
“I’m going to kill her,” Davina muttered between breaths.
