I thought of something
Kai:
Are you going to tell me what it is?
Miles:
Only if if I’m successful
“He stepped out,” I told them upon my return. “He’ll be back.”
Dinner was a mostly silent affair. I was just grateful Callie was eating and hadn’t retreated to her room. Of all of us, I hadn’t expected Amir to be the one able to comfort her.
I had no idea what the hell Miles was doing, but I had a distressed omega to focus on.
“Do you want us to move the nest properly down into your room or are you going to keep the one in Diego’s?” I asked.
Callie shrugged. “I like it where it is, but I’d like to have a proper nest instead of one split in two. I just… I don’t know if I can stay here.”
The words sliced through me. “We want you to stay.”
“Sure didn’t feel like it,” she grumbled.
“It was a lapse in judgment,” I promised.
Callie sighed. “That’s what makes me nervous. There were a lot of those with Jerry in the beginning. A lot of promises to do better, and then once he was sure I wouldn’t leave, he stopped trying.”
“I know saying we’re not him won’t make a difference,” said Diego.
“You’re right,” she replied. “I can’t help how I feel when I see what could be the start of a new pattern now that I finally recognize what he was doing.”
“You don’t have to change how you feel, little dove. It’s up to us to break that pattern before it forms. This is new for all of us too, and that’s not an excuse; we’re just used to doing things as a unit.”
“I know that. And it feels like shit to be on the outside of it. You guys have had years to figure out how everything works between you, and I just get thrown in the deep end. I don’t know how to do any of this either.”
“Can we do anything to help you feel more comfortable going forward?”
“Maybe start with a whole pack meeting for anything that comes up instead of ganging up on me.”
“None of us will make that mistake again.” I reached out for her hand, grateful when she didn’t withdraw it. I linked our fingers and kissed the back of her hand. “No more pack meetings unless everyone is involved, unless it’s to plan awesome surprises.”
That last bit got a small smile out of her. “I might be starting to like those. Do you think we could move to the nest? I’m tired.”
“Up or down?” I asked.
“Down. I’m not climbing stairs unless one of you is carrying me.”
“That’s very easily arranged,” said Diego. “Pick the one you want either way.”
“Hmm, maybe still down. My room smells wrong with no one’s scent but mine in there and that needs to change. Plus, I need to drown out all the stress scents or I’m going to trigger a cry the next time I lie down in there.”
Amir and Diego got the dishes back into the kitchen and I took Callie to her nest, my omega dragging me straight into it with her. She curled up instantly in my arms. The action loosened a knot in my chest, even though the scent clinging to her pillows had my instincts on edge. Tears and stress saturated her nest. Our fault.
I got my purr going and snuggled as close to her as I possibly could, pleased when she relaxed. Diego and Amir joined a few moments later, and I could see on their faces the moment they caught the same scents I had. We wedged her between us, all three of us purring until Callie was boneless and purring in return. Amir dragged one of the blankets over us, cocooning the four of us and trapping the scents that were infinitely preferable to what we’d encountered upon arrival.
Slowly the burnt sugar was replaced by crisp apple and sweetness, mingling with each of our scents. And bit by bit that sweetness began to overwhelm the confines of the nest, Callie’s breathing shifting and her hips pressing closer. My body responded to it instantly, cinnamon filling the air and my cock hardening against her ass. The others noticed too. Soon her wiggling brought on whimpers and she tipped her head up to Diego, dragging him into a kiss that had my nose filled with candied apple and spices.
Our omega still wanted us. Being able to hold her, to give her what she craved, helped bridge any gaps that formed between us. I would let her take the lead here; if she only wanted Diego, Amir and I would leave. If she wanted us all, we would stay and indulge in the pliant warmth of her body.
