Meredith softly speaks into the phone, letting Jordan know he’s waiting.

The office door across the room swings open and another sharp meathead like the ones from the elevator steps out. His dark hair is slick with gel and combed in a swirl away from a strong side part. His facial hair is meticulously trim and lined with a bit of shadow added to fill any gaps. His crisp white collar is spread open to his spray tanned chest offering a peek at trimmed chest hair.

”Brendon?” He offers a perfectly manicured hand to shake.

“Yes.” Brendon stands up and meets his greeting.

Jordan reeks of the same cologne that’s likely still lingering in the elevator. He does have kind deep brown eyes and is very young for a law partner. Nepotism at its finest.

“Come right on in.” He ushers Brendon into his office.

Jordan’s perfectly sculpted ass and thighs bulge under designer slacks as he walks around his desk and drops into the high back leather chair.

There’s a photo of him and another man who could be his brother, in a silver frame on the desk. The black band on his ring finger suggests they’re husbands. Jordan is just Christian’s type. He loved to fuck the help. It probably happened plenty right over this desk.

“It’s so nice to finally meet you.”

I’m sure. “It’s nice to meet you too.” He smiles.

“We do have a lot to discuss.” Jordan gets right to it. “I’m truly sorry about Christian. His, er your family have been clients of ours for years.”

“Christian was my husband, but I have no connection to his family.” Brendon corrects him.

“Christian’s passing has left all of his assets to you.” Jordan drops the bomb.

“What does that mean?” Brendon is confused. “I always thought everything he had was in a protective trust for the family. He has a sister in Dallas. I’ve only met her once.”

“Yes. Mary would like to buy your shares of the family business, if you’re open to selling but Christian’s private equities are yours.” Jordan’s smile is impossibly white against his tan skin.

“I don’t want anything to do with the business.” Brendon squirms. “I have no idea what Christian has in equities.”

“Well… you’re a very rich man Mr. Porter.” Jordan beams.

Brendon’s stomach whirls and his throat tightens. He stares at the photo of Jordan and his husband and imagines Christian has had both of them.

“Christian has five point six million in cash and stocks, plus his shares in the company are valued at seven million, which Mary is willing to pay.” Jordan taps on his computer keyboard.

“I don’t know what to do with twelve point six million dollars.” Brendon stares hollow eyed at Jordan.

“It’s intimidating, but the firm that has handled all of Christian’s investments will reach out. They’ll want to keep you as a client and will do anything to ensure your assets are well cared for.”

Brendon can’t form words.

“I do have a lot of papers for you to sign.” He shuffles a stacks of folders full of paperwork.

“Okay.” Brendon is stunned.

“Don’t worry. I’m here to help.” Jordan smiles warmly.

“Thank you.” Brendon swallows the sick rising in his throat.

Chapter 28

Surprise

“Matthew, she’s so cute!” The bubbly blonde socialite with a crown of intricately placed foil envelopes fanned over her head squeals.

“Thank you Margo. She knows it to.” He chuckles, cradling Honey Darling in his arms and gazing down into her big brown starry eyes aimed back at him.
