Page 66 of Vicious Knight

All that greets me is the stillness of nothing and a host of shadows that live in the night.

He’s just fucking with me again. Fucking with me and taking pleasure in my distress.

I have no idea what he’s thinking and as the days have gone by I’ve lost perspective on what he might do. From what I know about Thorne Ivanov, I can tell he’s volatile, reckless and vicious. To be that way you also have to be heartless, which doesn’t bode well for me.

The one thing I’m holding on to is the fact that he saved me from being caught at Raventhorn Hall. That suggests something human resides in him.

I hope I’m right.

More importantly, I hope that Thorne will give me an answer soon.

He warned me not to run, but if he doesn’t tell me what he’s going to do I’d be a fool to stick around.

I can’t put my family at risk. The more days that pass, the more dangerous things become. For all of us.

“Ryan Konilova asked me out. Do you think I should say yes?” Isabelle asks, glancing at Mackenzie and me nervously as we turn down the path.

The three of us are heading to the pizzeria for dinner.

“You waited until now to tell us this?” Mackenzie snaps, nudging Isabelle in her side.

“Ouch. And yes. I waited because I needed to think about it.”

“Why? He’s hot and he’s a Bratva heir. The answer should be yes.”

“I don’t know. What do you think, Ivy? You’ve been super quiet. All week.”

“Hey, maybe she’s still traumatized from that horrible tunnel experience.” Mackenzie places an arm around me.

I never told anyone, including Tiffany, about Raventhorn Hall. I made it seem like my encounter with the rats in the tunnels was my punishment.

Tiffany wasn’t happy that I’m still a student here, and only she and I know what her true intentions were.

She never mentioned anything about it and she never called my parents either. I have a feeling that Thorne spoke to her.

“I’m okay. Just tired.”

“I hate rats, so I feel your pain. If you need to talk about it, I’m here to listen.”

“Thanks.”

God, I wish the fucking rats were the problem. They’ve served as a good excuse but I can only act traumatized by vermin for so long.

It’s night again, and still nothing from Thorne.

“So, what do you think?" Isabelle asks with a little smile.

“About what?” Crap. I’ve lost my focus and can’t remember what she was talking about.

“Ryan. He asked me out. He seems nice enough and he’s not…”

“Kade,” Mackenzie fills in with disgust.

“Yeah. He’s not Kade.” Isabelle tries to sound like that’s a positive thing but I can tell she’s still hung up on him.

“I think you should go. It’s just a date.” I offer her a gentle smile.

“Okay, I’ll say yes.”
