Who’d have thought . . . damn, life was good.

Yeehaaaaaa.

Chapter Eighteen

At the end of the paddock, Luca slowed Wild Fire to a walk and we entered the wooded forest. The air was cooler in the shadows of the dense canopy and appreciating the warmth of Luca’s body, I leaned in closer.

“Are you okay back there?”

“Yes, of course. This is incredible.”

The trees on either side of us created an avenue just wide enough for us to walk through. Millions of leaves littered the floor, a rugged carpet of copper and brown.

Absolute stillness surrounded us. No branches rustling in the breeze. No leaves scuttling along the ground. No birds swooping from one branch to the next. It was just Luca, Wild Fire, and I, and it was profoundly peaceful.

I sensed the forest welcoming us with open arms.

After a short distance, Luca coaxed Wild Fire off the obvious path onto a narrower, less discernible track. We reached an incline and as the stallion plodded down the hill, I gripped my arms tighter around Luca. At the bottom, the land leveled out and we arrived at the edge of a small stream.

Wild Fire didn’t even balk before stepping into theshallow brook, and I couldn’t decide if it was Luca or the stallion leading the way.

Back on dry land, we traveled along the edge of the stream for a short way. The sounds of the trickling water added another element to my already overloaded senses.

A flash of red in the near distance caught my attention. The color and shape were starkly out of place with the warm-hued natural surroundings. When I recognized what it was, I recalled Luca’s parting comment last month: ‘I’ll be more prepared next time.’ My girly bits fluttered.

Nestled between the stream and the trees, he’d set up a little picnic spot complete with a red and white checked blanket and a wicker basket positioned on one of the corners.

Luca eased Wild Fire to a halt and turned slightly with his arm out for my support. “Are you okay to get down?”

“I think so.” Gripping onto him, I swung my leg over the horse’s rump and slid over the side.

Luca pounced to his feet and led Wild Fire toward a giant oak tree. The horse turned his attention to the lush grass at his hooves, and after securing the stallion with an extra-long rope, Luca practically skipped back to me. “I told you I’d be more prepared.”

Luca’s tongue glided out and slicked his plum-colored lips and my pussy pulsed at the flashback of the miracle that tongue had produced last time we were together. I cleared my throat. “I can’t believe you did all this.”

“It was nothing. Come, take a seat.” He indicated to the blanket.

The plush grass beneath the checkered cloth was ample padding. I sat cross-legged and just about went cross-eyed as I wished I’d taken a moment to pluck all that satin and lace out of my ass.

Luca extracted items from the picnic basket—a smallbreadboard the shape of a paddle, two plastic plates, napkins, cutlery, strawberries, bread, and cheese.

It was truly amazing.

He held up a bottle of champagne and grinned. “Shall we?”

My conscience shot straight to being Negative Nelly—I was supposed to be working. “Yes please.” My mouth, however, had other plans.

He popped the cork and filled two plastic wine glasses to the top. His hand grazed mine as he passed the cup and that simple touch confirmed what I already knew—I wanted Luca’s hands all over me.

After we clinked our cups together, I took a sip. It was bitter and nasty, and I was a heartbeat away from screwing up my face when I forced it down.

The last thing I wanted to do was be ungrateful.

This smoking-hot, come-in-my-pants, urban cowboy had gone to extraordinary measures to seduce me. Foreplay was fast becoming my favorite thing. After oral sex. And orgasms. And smoking hot men with rippling abs who want to be with me.I am a lucky girl.

I sipped the bitter bubbles again, moaning my appreciation.

Luca did the opposite. He poured the entire drink down his throat, tossed the cup over his shoulder, launched onto his hands and knees, and crawled toward me. “I’ve been dreaming of you since you left.”
