It was like a switch had flipped and Rocco’s eyes grew so dark they almost lost their color. “Is that who you are meeting?”

“So what if it was?” I jutted my chin out slightly. “Who I spend my time with is no concern of yours after you ditched me.”

Rocco stood abruptly, causing the glasses on the table to jump. I flinched involuntarily at the noise and my heart began to pound as Rocco stalked toward me like I was a piece of raw meat and he the ravenous lion.

“It concerns me,” Rocco said firmly. “Because I know what you deserve.”

“And I don’t?” It took all my strength to keep my voice steady. Rocco stopped a half-inch away from me, and his oceanic, fruity scent swept into my lungs. It was like some kind of drug. Just one taste and my body was lit on fire.

“No,” Rocco said darkly. “You don’t. You make snap judgments when you don’t have all the information.”

“That’s so stupid,” I snapped. “I can only judge on the information I have, and given the fact that you left me, it gives me all the information I need.”

It took all my strength to take one step back. I was suddenly hyper aware that we were in a restaurant, and my poor hostess had been waiting all this time.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a dinner to attend and…” I turned away, trying to come up with an on the spot plan to make sure I didn’t sit here all night by myself, but when I turned away from Rocco, my heart stopped.

The entire restaurant was empty. I hadn’t even noticed the fading noise of conversation during my discussion with Rocco, but the place was completely void of anyone. All the people I’d glanced at on my way over here were just… gone.

“Did you forget who owns this restaurant?” Rocco stepped up behind me, a solid, heated line of muscle pressing against my back. His arm came around my waist, and he pressed his palm flat against my abdomen. His lips caressed the shell of my ear while he spoke, and my nerves jumped sharply as if I’d just been shocked by his contact.

I had to resist. I was better than this. Better than him.

And yet my knees were weak. My heart was pounding up into my throat, and at the same time, I could feel the rapid jump of my heart down in my core. Could he feel the Spanx just below the fabric of my dress?

“Did you forget who owns everything in this town?” Rocco asked in a low voice that vibrated through me like the thrum of a string.

“You don’t own me,” I gasped.

“No,” Rocco replied, and his palm slid down my body, then he suddenly grasped my mound through my dress and used that grip to pull me firmly back against him. “No one could own you.”

I gasped as a jolt of pleasure shot through my core and my grip on my purse failed. It clattered to the ground as I gripped his thick arm.

“But,” Rocco continued, “the gift of a taste is more than any man is worth.”

I shouldn’t want this. Rocco was a dangerous man in a dangerous world. I’d kissed his friends. He was Zack’s father, and this would get so fucking complicated so quickly. Logic screamed at me to push him away, grab my purse, and get out of there.

That was overridden by the realization that he cleared out the entire restaurant so he could have me to himself. He did it so subtly, I never noticed a thing.

“Rocco!” I gasped, and his grip on my mound became firmer. He pressed my dress right between my legs and even lifted me up half an inch so I was balanced on my toes.

“Just a taste,” Rocco groaned. He dragged his lips down to the side of my neck, and I was powerless to resist. My head fell to the side, exposing the length of my throat to his wandering lips, and a strong pulse of desire swept through my core. My muscles clenched so hard with need, it was almost painful.

I wanted him.

I wanted him so fucking badly.

So, I gave in.

I turned in his arms, and our mouths clashed together like a crack of thunder. Instantly, I was jerked back to our first night together, where the passion was all-consuming, and in just a few seconds, it was reignited.

He wound both arms around my body and lifted me upward while we kissed desperately. I slid my hands into his thick, dark hair, pulling just to remind him that I was capable. Spinning me around, he shifted one arm to sweep across his table, and the silence of the room was shattered by the sound of falling plates and shattering glass.

Rocco threw me onto the table, knocking the breath from me upon impact. I had one glance to notice Dino and Jian stepping away through the door to the kitchen, but I didn’t miss the hunger in their eyes. Later, I’d be disappointed that they left.

Then Rocco was on me, and his mouth claimed mine in a desperate, biting kiss that flared heat like a wave down my body. He slotted perfectly between my legs and then caught my wandering hands. Both my wrists were held in one palm as he pinned me down to the table. My heart raced so loudly, I was certain he could feel it as he dragged his other hand over my breasts and down my ribs.
