“God, no! He’s just a pest that I have to deal with because of my cousin.”
I’m saved from answering any more unwanted questions because there’s static and then a soft tapping on a microphone that carries over the speaker throughout the room.
“Good afternoon, everyone. I’m Brooks, but many of you know me as Ace’s best friend.”
There are chuckles throughout the room.
Brooks turns to face Alessandro. “Now, Ace, I know you didn’t know there was going to be a performance today, but your sweet wife has a little surprise for you. So, sit back and enjoy.”
Alessandro crosses the room, coming to Isa’s side. By the time Brooks is finished, there’s not a dry eye in sight and everyone knows that Isa and Alessandro are expecting a baby boy.
I sigh softly. “Again, I’m so jealous.”
Hannah doesn’t answer, crossing the room to her husband. Isa is still with Alessandro and suddenly, I feel so very alone.
Heat licks at my back and I know Grant is standing there. His arm goes around my waist, pulling me close.
“Let’s get out of here, Little Fae, and leave love to those who deserve it.”
My heart feels like it’s breaking, but he’s right. I don’t belong here.
Looking up at him, I say, “Let’s go.”

Grant and I slip away, with no one noticing. In the elevator, Grant pulls me into his embrace, looking down at me.
“I’m sorry for what I said on the plane. We both know the Brotherhood is watching us, and if they know we were together, they’re going to start meddling in our lives.”
“I’m not naïve, Grant. I know how they work.”
“I know you do, and it’s sexy as hell.”
He cups my face with his hands before brushing his lips against mine. I kiss him back for a moment before pulling away.
“What are we doing, Grant?”
“We’re going back to our room where I’m going to worship your body.”
Heat slowly spreads through me.
But I ask, “Is that wise?”
“No.” His lips lift in a small smile. “But that’s not going to stop me. Will it stop you?”
“No.”
“Good girl.”
He holds my hand as we exit the elevator and make our way outside. The car is waiting and takes us back to our hotel. There’s a voice in the back of my mind that warns the driver will let Charles know that we left the baby shower early, but I don’t care. Not right now, at least.
Neither of us speaks as we make our way to the room. Grant unlocks the door using his phone and holds it open so I can walk in first. He’s right behind me.
When the door closes, I turn to face him, only to be pulled into his embrace, his lips smashing against mine. His kiss is ravenous, but I understand the urgency as I kiss him back.
I reach for his suit jacket, tugging it from his shoulders. He breaks the kiss, shrugging out of it. Together, we unbutton his shirt. As he finishes the last few buttons, I reach for his pants.
