“Yes.”
“Let it be clear that you didn’t accomplish your goal tonight.”
He coughs, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
“I have a gun wound to my chest. Of course, I didn’t accomplish my goal. Now, you’ve got your confession. Take me to a hospital.”
I bark out a laugh. “Did you not hear the part where I said you were going to end up dead? There’s no hospital in sight for you, old man. In fact, the only thing in your future is a trip to the Everglades.”
Ace leans in. “That means gator chow, Zhang.”
The man pales, but we’re being honest. Once he’s dead, his body will be disposed of where no evidence will be found. Like Ace said, gator chow.
I stop the recording on my phone and send the video to Blanc with a message.

We were looking at the wrong member. Jones’ only sin was loving the wrong person.
You’ll need to reach out to Grant Carter because he’s now an Elite Member.
Dropping my phone in my pocket, I take off my suit jacket, setting it aside. No need for an unwanted dry-cleaning trip.
I crack my knuckles as I face Zhang and Sullivan.
“Let’s have some fun, boys.”

Grant Carter does his best to keep me calm. It’s not his fault that it doesn’t work.
“Hannah, you need to calm down. It’s not good for you or the baby.”
I inhale deeply as I pace. He’s right, of course. This can’t be good for me or the babies, but I won’t be able to calm myself until I know Brooks is safe.
The man with Grant comes over, leaning into Grant as he whispers something.
“What is it?”
Grant says, “The suite you were in is empty, well, except for your mother.”
“Is she…”
“Dead,” he confirms.
I let out a small laugh. “I feel like I should be sad or something.”
“Was she a good parent?”
I shake my head once.
“Then you don’t owe her anything, including feeling sad that she’s gone.” He pauses. “Is there anyone I should call?”
“No one.” I run my fingers through my hair. “My Dad is in Oklahoma, and I don’t want him to come here just for this.”
“As I said before, I will stay with you for as long as you need.”
