She grinned, flicking her hair. "I'm ready to be a cougar—just give me some leopard print pants and a tube top."

I laughed, pushing her chair away with my foot. "Don't lie—I know you've been eyeing off one of the bodyguards for that singer who lives in town."

She lifted an eyebrow. "What makes you say that?"

"Uh," I raised a finger to my chin pretending to think. "Let's see. You hate green juice but he's there every morning ordering one."

She rolled her eyes, sucking another sip of the green juice down.

"You started going to the gym when—and I quote—you would rather be tarred and feathered than wear spandex."

"I purchased bamboo and nylon."

"And—and this is the kicker—you drool every time he walks by."

Kei picked up a pen, throwing it at my head. "Shut your pie hole!"

"It's Sally." I exchanged a confused look with Keiko.

I grinned, shooting Keiko a wink. "Didn't it go wonderfully? I was so pleased to—"

"Your services are no longer required."

I stuttered to a halt. "I'm sorry?"

"In light of the news article published today, your contract with us has been terminated. We will of course pay you for the work you did in relation to the launch but due to inappropriate behavior, our contract is now null and void."

"I'm sorry, can you please—"

"The money will be transferred into your bank account shortly. I've requested that all access to the building be removed. Goodbye, Ms. Hawthorn."

"Sally, wait! I—"

The phone made a sad sound before ending.

I stared at it for a beat then looked up, my eyes wide as I met Keiko's shocked gaze.

"Did that just—"

"What the fuck was—"

Kei pulled her phone from her pocket, fingers flying across the screen.

"Oh shit."
