Keiko shot me a triumphant grin.

"But that's not what we're here to talk about today." Ash leaned in; his expression serious as he stared at me. "Millie, how do you feel about our current logo?" He nodded at the print on the back of the door.

I hesitated, wondering if this was a test. "Um… it's… basic."

I scrambled for something positive to say. "The line is very… blue."

The table chuckled.

"You hate it."

I crumbled in the face of Ash's amusement. "Yeah, I really do."

"Good." He slid a folder across the table. "We're looking for a new logo. We want it to better represent our brand. If you're willing, we'd love to offer Thorn and Kei Designs this project."

Joy and abject terror warred in my gut.

This is everything we've ever wanted. Oh, God. What if we fail?

Ash watched me with those knowing green eyes, his expression reassuring.

"We loved everything you guys did with the water filters. We believe you'll do the same with our logo."

I swallowed, glancing over at Keiko, her face as equally stunned as mine.

"We'll do it," I said, reaching for the file. "Thank you."

Ash grinned, his body relaxing. "Great. I can't wait to get started."

Chapter Seven

Ash

I watched through the glass as Millie chatted to Dylan, setting up a time to meet with me tomorrow.

Anticipation simmered under my skin; my gaze greedy as I watched her.

Tomorrow isn't soon enough.

An image of her superimposed itself across this scene. I could see my hands as they fisted the material of her stuck dress. I could feel the material giving way under my effort, exposing her to me.

Fuck this.

I turned, checking the calendar of meetings Dylan religiously left on my desk.

Three meetings and a call to Tokyo. Fuck.

The three meetings were about the new engine, but I was still working on the intake issue so the updates would be minor.

What's the point of being the boss if you can't move shit around?

There were only three meetings I'd ever blown off in my life—two as a result of a stomach flu that had left me worshipping the toilet, and one because the guy had refused to acknowledge Dylan and Hazel in the meeting. I didn't deal with douchebags.

I pressed a button, buzzing Dylan.

"What's up, boss?"

"Dyl, can you cancel my meetings? Except Tokyo. I'll take that at home."
