"Never, wife." I murmured, still running hands over her back. "I live only for your pleasure."
She snorted, rolling to curl into me. "As it should be."
As it always will be. I promise.
Chapter Nine
Collins
I stared down at my underwear with a growing sense of dismay. The first trace of blood lined the inside.
Fighting tears, I cleaned up the mess.
No baby.
I returned to the lounge room, finding Nick slumped across the couch watching Die Hard, a large bowl of popcorn precariously balanced on his stomach.
I sat down, snuggling into his side, trying and failing to stop the tears.
"Hey," he reached over, lifting my head. "What's wrong?"
I sniffed, my eyes drifting to where Bruce Willis was crawling through air ducts.
"Nothing."
"Bullshit." Nick reached out, pausing the movie, shoving the bowl to the side. He turning me fully towards him, giving me his full attention.
"Tell me."
I sighed, scrubbing a hand over my face. "I got my period. I know I shouldn't be upset because we just reconnected and the timing is all wrong but…"
"But you wanted our baby." Nick's voice was warm and understanding.
I nodded, still unable to meet his eyes. He gently tilted my head, forcing me to look him in the eye.
"We have time, Collins. All the time in the world. This isn't the end for us. And if we can't conceive, we have adoption. Hell, we can conceive and adopt if you want." He brushed a thumb across my cheek, swiping away the stray tears.
"I'm in this for the long haul, Tesoro. You can grieve for this lost moment. But I won't allow you to remain sad. This time together is too precious for that."
My heart beat with the bitter-sweet knowledge that he was right. "I'm sorry."
He tutted, shaking his head. "Never apologize, Tesoro. You are my heart and when you ache, I ache. You can always feel, always tell me what you feel. There is no judgement in this house."
I sighed, settling into him. We stayed like that for a long moment, enjoying this feel.
"You need anything?" He asked.
"No," I whispered back, loving the feel of him in my arms. "I just can't believe I'm actually here with you."
"Explain?"
I shrugged. "Life never felt right without you."
He sighed, running fingers through my hair. "I know."
I tilted my head back, raising an eyebrow in question.
"I missed you. Every single day. All I wanted was another moment, one touch." He blew out a breath. "Life felt less without you."
