“Mother Trucker. What the hell was that for?” I hear Rae yell, and I burst into the room, pushing Piper aside, ready to spill blood for my babies.
“What’s going on?” I ask when I step inside. The sight before me has me trying to hold in my laughter.
Comp is sitting on the bed screaming, “Shoot him! Shoot him!” while pointing at the computer screen Rae is sitting in front of. She’s clicking away at the keyboard, and Rome is beside Comp, screaming, “You missed that one! Kill him!”
“Uh, hi, helloooo! What’s going on in here?” I ask again as I hear Piper’s snort of laughter behind me.
“They found my gaming set-up… he’s coming back! Get him!” Comp yells, and Rae does just that. She kills whoever her target is before jumping up and throwing her hands in the air, wrapping them around Comp, who looks utterly shocked at the show of affection.
“Thank you, Uncle Comp, for teaching me how to play.” It takes him a minute, but he smiles and wraps his huge arms around her small frame.
“Anytime, Princess,” he tells her, the scar on his face pulling his lip tight when he smiles.
“Alright, kids, I think it’s time to give Uncle Comp a break. Let’s go see what other trouble we can get into,” I tell them.
“Awwww…. But it was my turn to play,” Rome says, looking down sadly.
“They can stay with me if they want. I don’t mind,” Comp says as the kids look at me with excitement and hope in their eyes. I roll mine and sigh.
“Fine, but don’t break anything, and make sure you two don’t go wandering around. Comp, call Loki or me if or when you need us,” I tell them, and they all three immediately go back to the computer game, ignoring every last thing I just said.
I chuckle before turning to Piper and telling her, “Looks like I’m all yours.”
“Come on, girl. Izzy was in the kitchen with the babies last time I saw her,” she says, pulling me down the hall. I swear Bronx and Jett have to be the best babies ever. They are only a few months old, but they love to be close to each other. They even hold tiny hands when they are laid in a crib together. So cute. We walk into the kitchen, and Izzy is rocking both babies.
“Hey, love! I’ve got Halle here, so now we can plan our girls’ night,” Piper says, and Izzy throws her hands up as best she can while holding two babies.
“Hell yes! So where are we going, ladies? We are kid-free and ready to get wild!” Izzy tells us. I laugh and love her crazy.
“Honestly, I’ve never had a girls’ night. I have no clue what we should do,” Piper says, chewing her lip.
“I’ve never had one either,” Izzy says sadly. They both turn to me. Even if Izzy’s sight isn’t fully back, I know I’m still a shadow and shape to her.
“The only girls' night I’ve ever had was with my sister.” Which reminds me I need to call and check in with her. I haven’t talked to her in a few weeks, but that’s not entirely uncommon for us. With her work taking her all over, I know she’ll resurface and head my way when she has a moment to breathe.
“What did you two do?” Izzy asks.
“Actually, all we did was go out to eat and then maybe get a drink at the bar.” I’m trying to come up with a fun night for all of us. We deserve it, and we all need to get out of here for a while, go out, have some fun, and dance.
“Oh, I know what we could do!” I say excitedly as my wheels start turning, thinking of a master plan.
“Not sure how I feel about that evil gleam in your eyes,” Piper says nervously.
“Ohhhh… she always has her best ideas when she gets that look,” Izzy says.
“I say, we tell the men we are only going out to eat and to do some shopping. Then what we really do is… wait, hold that thought,” I say, stopping and then leaning out the kitchen door, looking both ways to make sure no one is listening in. When I don’t see anyone lurking, I walk back to the girls.
“We should hit up Devils Crossroads!” I tell them both as a smile breaks across my face.
“Uh well… won’t the men kind of freak out about that?” Izzy asks, wringing her hands and looking nervous. I look at Piper, who’s smiling just as wide as I am.
“That’s the fun part,” Piper says, and we both start laughing.
“Alright, the men have the kids tonight, so we will head out at seven. We will tell them we are going out to eat and to do some shopping, but instead of shopping, we are going to see how the business is doing,” I tell them both.
“I’ve been wanting to see that place since it opened, and I got a sneak peek at one of the club parties,” Piper says with her smile still in place. Now she’s the one rubbing her hands together, but definitely not out of nervousness. I love these girls. We must have been related in a previous life or some shit like that.
“At least y’all will actually get to see what the fuss is all about,” Izzy says, pouting.
