“You didn’t scare me.” He arches his brow, crossing his arms over his chest. “Just didn’t expect anyone to be creeping outside the door.”
“I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“I’m fine,” I insist.
Again with the same stare he’s been offering all night. I feel my pulse quicken.
“Why do I make you nervous?” he asks, leaning a little closer. The smell of his cologne lingers between us.
“You don’t make me nervous.”
I take a step forward and he stands taller but doesn’t move completely out of my way.
“I think I do.” His voice is low and I hate the way his eyes linger. Okay, fine, I don’t hate it, but I should. “What I want to know is why?”
Just then someone says excuse me and I use it as my opportunity to slip past him and rejoin everyone else. I don’t miss the way both Vivian and Scarlett look at me and then shift their attention to Gray as he joins us thirty seconds later.
“Is there anything you would like to share?” Viv asks but Scarlett is also leaning in close waiting for a response.
“So what’s your deal with Wolverine?” Both of them wrinkle their brows in confusion and I lift my hands wiggling my fingers in explanation. If there is one thing I noticed about the goddess that I didn’t much care for it was that she had extremely long pointy nails.
“Wolverine,” I say once again curling up my fingers like I’m about to attack. Both of them start to laugh.
“Fitting yes, but I feel guilty for using Hugh Jackman’s character as a reference, because that man is just so pretty.” Vivian pouts only making Scarlett laugh harder. They’d both had a few shots and were equally feeling good.
“And that accent,” Scarlett swoons. “There’s no bigger turn on than a man with an accent.” She sways from side to side, moving her hips and practically sighing.
The mood quickly fades when we are rejoined by none other than the dagger queen herself.
“Do you want to get out of here?” she asks, moving in close as her tits rub against Gray’s arm once again. One hand disappears beneath the table and suddenly his body shifts backwards. I can only imagine what she’d done out of sight.
“I’m pretty sure the two of us can find something much more entertaining to do with our time.”
It’s like a train wreck. You know it’s going to happen and that it’s going to be bad, but you still can’t seem to look away. He glances around the table, and before he reaches me, I force myself to look away. I’d already been caught more than once staring at him.
“No,” I hear words over the music. Lifting my gaze I find him watching me. “I’m good.”
“Seriously?” Gia sounds irritated.
“I’m sticking around,” he adds, the corner of his mouth tipping up in a smile.
I chance a look at Gia and sure enough she is looking back and forth between Grayson and myself. “You’re joking, right?” she asks, crossing her arms over her chest.
I hear Scarlett laugh and fight my own smile. She however was absolutely loving the dismissal Gray was offering.
“If you want to take off, then take off,” Gray adds, regaining my attention. He lifts his beer and though I don’t want to find it appealing I do when he rests it against his lower lip and tips it back. His throat bobs as he swallows before lowering it and dragging his tongue over the same lip.
Butterflies flip around in my stomach, my hands tremble, and my nipples grow hard against the soft fabric of my sweater.
Suddenly Gia grabs her purse off the table and storms off toward the front door. Scarlett bursts out into a fit of laughter and Vivian is close behind.
Without even thinking my lips are moving before my brain can even register my words. “Way to piss off your girlfriend, Gray.”
The two guys at our table, one I’ve heard everyone refer to as Hollywood and the other Hayes, chuckle at my comment.
“She’s not my girlfriend,” Gray insists, holding my stare.
“Does she know that?” I shrug, grabbing my empty glass and making my way to the bar.
