“What’s going on, brother?” Sniper asks with concern. He drags a chair over and sits down, leaning his elbows on his knees, his attention fully on me.
I chuckle darkly. “Brook finally confirmed she believes my mother may have had something to do with Marcus…and possibly Nina.”
Sniper’s mouth drops open in shock and I nod, because if it wasn’t for my girl telling me she loved me last night, I would have gone after my mother.
“What the fuck?” he rasps.
“Honestly, my gut was telling me it was her or Nina, I had just hoped it was Nina. I still am hoping, because I can’t find any fucking evidence but….” I run a hand through my hair. “She’s my fucking mother, Sniper, my mother, and she may have had that shit orchestrated, and I can’t understand why. She has to know I wouldn’t leave the club; I wouldn’t back then, and I wouldn’t now. My life here as part of the club, it has fuck all to do with Brook.”
Sniper bites his bottom lip, then asks, “Do you think Nina has something on your mom, like evidence of wrongdoing, or did she actually orchestrate it, and is trying to pin it on your mother?”
I shrug. “I don’t think so. Momma’s the type of person to get Dad to kill someone if she’s being blackmailed. I just, fuck, none of it makes sense.”
I lean back in my chair, my eyes going to the picture of me and my girl, and my heart hurts.
What if she never wants to give us a chance because of what Momma did?
What if sex is all she is willing to offer me?
“Stop that!” Sniper snaps, and I look his way, raising a brow. He points at me. “I can see your fucking head turning wheels. Stop with the ‘what ifs’, and don’t allow what your momma may have done to lose your girl, because if we lived on ‘what ifs’, then we’ll never be able to fucking breathe.” He runs a hand through his dark hair. “I mean…what if my wife finds out I’m in an MC? What if my wife realizes I purposely messed with her birth control pills to get her pregnant, so she won’t leave me?” My eyes widen in shock because, surely, he didn’t just fucking say that. He sighs. “What ifs will bring you down, brother, don’t fucking let it.”
My mouth hangs open, and I sputter, “You messed with your wife’s birth control?”
He winces, running a hand through his hair. “I like that’s what you focus on and not that I’m married.”
I chuckle. “Brother, I saw the ring, and I told you I would want an explanation, but seriously, you're fucked if she realizes what you’ve done. Didn’t you learn from Breaker and his shitshow?”
Sniper grins. “How do you think I got the idea?”
Laughing, I shake my head at him, and ask, “What’s her problem with MCs?”
He shrugs. “I don’t know. She wouldn’t tell me, fuck, she won’t tell me anything about her life before coming here, and we’ve been together for over a year and a half.”
My brows hit my hairline in shock, causing him to chuckle as my phone rings. I groan, grabbing it, only to furrow my brows and comment, “It’s Brook’s momma.”
Sniper sits straight, and I quickly answer the phone. Normally, she’ll just text if she needs me to watch Ollie or pick Josy up, which, admittedly, I do a lot.
They’re fucking awesome and my family.
“Sadie, is everything okay?” I answer.
She sniffles, and I tense. “We can’t find Brook.”
Sniper stands, ready for anything, and I command, “Explain.”
She sniffles again before there’s a rustling. “Tech?” Peter asks.
“Peter, what’s going on, where’s Brook?” I ask sternly, and he sighs.
“Fuck…Shadow’s passed, son. Brook came home to all the dogs piled on their momma, Sammy laying on her head….” I drop my head, knowing how much that dog meant to my girl. “I’ve looked everywhere for her. She ran, son, and I can’t fucking find her. She wasn’t even in the best of states to drive.”
I mutter, “Shit,” then ask, “Did you check the alleyway?”
He curses. “Where she found Shadow? Fuck! Of course! I’m an idiot.”
I shake my head and stand, closing down my monitors. "You’re not, trust me. I’ll go find her and let you know, Peter.”
“Are you sure?” he mutters, stress lacing in his voice.
