I shrug her off me and grin, stating, "Go ahead; I've already told Dad what's happening between us, including you selling our fucking warehouse information to our enemies for money.I'dgo pack if I was you, Nina, before the brothers get hold of you. Tell Mr. Hall I said hi when you end things with him, yeah? And that his wife's ass is a good fuck. And while you're at it, maybe take that twenty-year-old you're fucking with you, considering he's selling cocaine in our territory."

I tilt my head and grin at her paled face before walking toward the cafeteria, my stomach growling after my fuck with Ms. Hall, finally fucking free of the bitch, Nina.

Snake walks beside me and asks,"What the fuck was that about?"

I chuckle."Finally getting rid of the sponge who hurt me two years ago. If the brothers ask, she left with someone else when I refused to hand in my patch; only your dad and mine know she's been getting info on the club. Some came from Momma, but I don’t think she’s aware she was doing it…."

He nods, his eyes blazing with anger, as we walk into the noisy cafeteria. The smell of pizza hits my senses as eyes come our way. Girls bite their lips as we walk past, hoping to get our attention, while I make a silent promise to myself.

I'll never fucking settle again, never give a woman my cut. I thought Nina would be my forever two years ago, but she revealed her true colors, and showed me no woman can be trusted. It doesn't matter that Momma wants her for me, I don't fucking want her for me, and it's time I started to enjoy my life.

Brotherhood and whores, that's the fucking way to go.

Brook – Fourteen Years Old

I bite my lip, trying not to cry as I walk home from school. Marco Jacobs, a boy in my class, pushed me over in the cafeteria, causing my lunch to fall everywhere, including down my checkered shirt, and jeans. Everyone pointed and laughed; it was so embarrassing.

Some tears fall, and I quickly wipe them away, hurrying my steps, wanting to get home.

He wanted a kiss, but I didn't want to give him one. That morning,I saw him kissing a senior girl named Nina, who is basically the school bully. It was like they were eating each other's faces; it was gross, and I heard she was supposed to be in a relationship with one of the MC brothers.

No one goes against the MC, they’re like royalty in our town, and the fact he did….

I sniffle. I just wanted to eat my lunch on my own. I'm a loner at school but don't care; I like being by myself, especially when everyone calls me farm girl every day. But he wouldn't go away. I told him no several times, but he wouldn't quit, so I tried to leave, which is when he grabbed my arm and shoved me on the floor, calling me a whore.

He's two years older than me and popular, yet he acted like a two-year-old, throwing a tantrum when he was not getting his way.

And yet, people wonder why I don't mix with boys. Why would anyone want to rely on them?

I wipe away my fallen tears and shake my head—stupid boys.

I know I shouldn't have left school. My daddy would be upset with me, but I hurt my wrist when I fell, and being around everyone whispering and laughing at me was too much; they all thought it was funny.

I wipe my tears again.

"Are you okay darling?"

I blink, remembering his deep rasp. Those deepblue,ocean-eyes looked at me with concern. He came out of nowhere and helped me up, scowling at everyone who laughed while his friend was shoving a few of the people who laughed.

The boy who helped me, he's the MC brother Nina is dating. I don't know what his name was, but he was nice.

I sniffle again, bypassing some people before they can bang into me, stepping closer to the alleyway, when I hear a whimper. I furrow my brows, my heart picking up, ready to run past the gap, when another whimper hits my ears, then a small, tiny growl.

I furrow my brows and look down to see a dark gray fluffball trying to act bigger than they are.

My heart melts.

"Hey, puppy," I whisper, bending down a little, causing it to growl again. The blue eyes stare back at me as it slowly backs up.

I swallow hard and look to my left, and then right. No one is paying attention to me, so slowly, I sit down on the sidewalk at the mouth of the alleyway, crossing my legs to make myself look small.

"Come here, puppy," I whisper, holding my hand out.The puppy moves back a little, and my stomach tightens. "I won't hurt you, puppy…. Come on out…" I whisper again, trying to be patient with the fluffball. “Come out of the shadows…."

The puppy's ears twitch, and I bite my bottom lip, not moving a muscle, as the little fluffball slowly crawls my way on its stomach. When it gets within reach, it slowly sniffs my hand, and I whisper, "Hi puppy…." making it look at me, tilting its head.

I smile as it climbs into my lap.

Very slowly, I pet its head, before it climbs up my body. Its cold snout goes to my neck, making me giggle. I hold it tight but not tight enough to hurt it. I pet it for a few seconds, then slowly climb to my feet, and open my side bag. I place the puppy inside and rasp, "You're coming home with me, Shadow," with a smile.
