I shook my head. “I’ve never seen those guys until that day. Honestly, I would’ve assumed they were regular robbers if they hadn’t come back to kill him, and then me.” It felt as if a lifetime had passed since that day Hawk had saved me. Los Ochos had called a truce, it turned out that Eric had been blackmailing them and another minor gang into doing his dirty work—in addition to putting word out that Hawk was a snitch. The Steel Demons MC had had meetings with their leader, the decision was that I keep my mouth shut about Mark’s murder, and they would leave me and the MC alone.
And Eric would watch his carefully constructed world collapse around him.
“And Detective Owens?” The sheriff was a tough nut to crack, and I had a feeling he wasn’t giving an inch to make sure I was straight with him.
“An ex-boyfriend who lied to me and made up crimes against Hawk to get me to break up with him, which I almost did, and he almost cost me my life.”
Sympathy flashed in his deep-set eyes. “Did he ever tell you what he wanted?”
I shook my head. “He didn’t have time before Hawk’s friends showed up to rescue me.” It had been a surprise to see those guys shimmying through the window to get me out, but it really shouldn’t have been. Hawk was a man of his word. Always. “They found me locked in the closet.” Even though ten days had passed since the Steel Demons had executed their rescue mission, I still wasn’t quite back to normal. I still had nightmares, still woke up screaming in the middle of the night, and I still couldn’t relax when I wasn’t at home or with Hawk. It didn’t take a psychologist to figure out I had a bad case of post-traumatic stress disorder.
“I’m sorry you went through all of that, Ms. Carpenter. You’re lucky to be alive.
I nodded in agreement. “I feel that way every damn day since it happened.”
Sheriff Cross’s lips pulled into a tight version of a grin. “Thank you for coming back to answer more questions. I’ll call you if there’s anything left to cover.”
“Thanks.” My legs shook as I stood from the uncomfortable metal chair and walked through the maze of interrogation rooms and out to the exit. The sun was bright and hot against my skin as I stood out front and waited for Hawk to pick me up, not because I was in danger, but because we’d been attached at the hip since he wrapped me in his arms and told me everything would be all right.
He pulled up on his bike, his long hair blowing in the wind beneath his helmet, and when he took it off, the blinding smile he sent me sent a shiver down my spine. “Hey, babe, how’d it go?”
I shrugged my shoulders and leaned in for a kiss. “As well as to be expected. He asked a lot of questions a few different times and now here I am.”
The questions had put me on edge, but there was another reason that my pulse raced, and my limbs shook almost uncontrollably.
“Are you ready to go home?”
“So ready,” I admitted, and jumped on the back of the bike. It was my main mode of transportation for now, but I knew soon enough I would miss having my arms wrapped around Hawk while the wind whipped across my skin.

The ride home went quickly, which was just what I needed. I was ready to kick off my shoes and take off my bra and simply relax with my man. As soon as the bike pulled into the garage, I slipped off and headed inside.
“Hey,” Hawk called after me.
I turned and there he was, just an inch away from me as one hand went to my hip and the other speared through my hair. “Hey,” I said breathlessly when I caught the heat and desire in his eyes.
“I missed you,” he said, and slammed his mouth against mine. The kiss was hot and fiery, and it pulsed through my body like a wildfire. It was always like this with us, out of control and intense. So intense that I never quite felt myself. I felt like a different version of myself, wilder and sexier. Freer.
“Me. You too.” I couldn’t form a single thought because the pleasure was so intense, so explosive that my mind couldn’t catch up. “Hawk.”
He pulled back with a smile and quickly stripped me out of my clothes, his gaze dark and filled with desire. “You are so fucking beautiful. And you’re all mine.”
“Yours,” I repeated back to him as he flung one leg and then the other over his shoulders. “All yours. Oh, fuck!” His tongue was cool and rough against my clit, making my hips buck. “Hawk.” My fingers found his hair and tangled it in them, holding him close while he drove me wild with his mouth.
A low growl escaped, and the vibrations rocketed through my body, yanking my orgasm to the forefront.
“Oh, yes, Hawk! God, yes!” My legs shook and my core tightened, and then it was all fireworks and rainbows as pleasure flooded my body and I floated away, feeling better than I had all day. “Hawk.”
He licked me until my toes curled and continued until I felt too sensitive to even move, and only then did he cover his body with mine. “Laura, babe. I can’t fucking get enough of you, and I don’t want to.”
“Me neither.” My big, tough man had such a sweet and tender side that never failed to make me feel all the emotions when he showed me that side. “Love you.”
A fire lit in his eyes as he claimed my mouth again, and both of our hands worked to rid him of his jeans and boxers. “Finally. I need to be inside you. Now.”
“Yes,” I moaned when his cock perched at my entrance, hot and pulsing. “Now, Hawk. I need your cock.”
In one long, slow slide, he was buried deep inside my body. “Fuck. You feel so good. So. Fucking. Good.” His face was buried in the crook of my neck and his tongue slid up the slope of my neck as he pumped in and out of me, slow and deliberate at first.
