I went into nurse mode and started rummaging through his cupboards to see if I could find antiseptic and Band-Aids, but Hawk put his hand on my shoulder, “I’m okay, darlin’, it’s just a graze.”

“So did you find anything out about the red car?” I asked.

He pulled the bottle away from his full lips and sighed. “Unfortunately, we haven’t identified who owns the car yet. Slate is on it—and trust me when I tell you that he’s a genius when it comes to all that computer shit. If he’s having a hard time nailing down ownership and registration, it’s because someone is trying to hide it.”

My shoulders drooped in defeat. “That’s not what I wanted to hear.”

“Yeah, I didn’t want to hear it either, and I wanted to tell you I had nothing, even less. We’re digging into it, but I have to tell you, Laura, something feels fishy about all of this.” He took another sip of his beer and shook his head. “I don’t want you to worry unnecessarily.”

“I’m already worried, Hawk, but I think it’s pretty goddamn necessary. Someone wants me dead or at the very least, injured, which feels necessary.” I felt weak and vulnerable, two things I hated feeling with every fiber of my being.

Hawk turned back to the fridge, pulling out two more beers. “I’m sorry, sweetness. I know you want answers, but right now all I have is more fucking questions.”

“I know, and I’m not blaming you. This isn’t your fault, it’s just frustration.”

“You’re worried.” He popped the caps on the bottles.

I nodded, accepting the bottle with a smile. “Thanks. And yeah, I’m worried, but it’s not just that. I’m unfocused at work and I can’t afford that. People count on me to focus on them and their needs.”

“I really am sorry. Just know that no one has given up. We’re still here to protect you. I’ll keep you safe. I promise.”

“You’ve done a good job so far. I’m not worried.” I smiled at Hawk, suddenly feeling something more than worried and unfocused.

“What smells so good?”

Right! “I decided to try something complicated for dinner to get my mind off of things. It worked. Moussaka. It needs to go into the oven for forty-five minutes, but I was, uh, waiting for you to come home.” Home. Even as I said the word, it sounded familiar. Too familiar and right.

“Lucky me.” He flashed me a wicked grin. “Now, what can we do for the next forty-five minutes to kill some time?”

My nipples went instantly hard. They ached deliciously and the deep pulse between my thighs matched the racing of my heart. “With the fifteen-minute cooldown period we actually have an hour.”

Hawk’s gaze darkened as it devoured me in its dark web of heat and lust. I shivered as if he’d touched me with his hands. He licked his lips and drained his beer without taking his eyes off me. “An hour? It’s a good start. We can work up an appetite.”

Heat exploded inside me and I took a step forward.

Then Hawk took a step forward.

We did that dance again and again until our bodies were smashed together, and our lips were fused so tight we could’ve been one person. Hawk’s strong arms wrapped around me and pulled me closer, so his cock pressed against my belly and his heart thundered under my palm. I moaned and slid my hands down to his waistband before they slipped under his t-shirt, molding over each of his abs and then his pecs.

I shoved the shirt up his body and over his head before tossing it over my shoulder. I pressed my lips to the spot just above his belly button and kissed every ridge of his abdomen, enjoying the way his muscles flexed with my touch. I made it up to his pecs and kissed the hard muscle before I flicked my tongue across the disc of his nipple, hard and sweet.

“Laura.”

I moaned against his skin and up his throat, loving the way he gripped my ass possessively. His fingers tangled in my hair and gripped tight enough to sting as he dragged me up to his mouth. “Impatient.”

“For you, always.”

The shiver his words produced was purely lust, at least that was what I told myself as pride warmed my blood. He never failed to make me feel wanted, like I was the most desirable woman in the whole world, like he might die if he didn’t get me naked. It was an intense feeling, and if I was being honest with myself—only with myself—I never wanted it to end. “Hawk, please.”

He stripped me out of my clothes, kissing his way down every inch of me until I shook and shivered with need as he kissed his way back up my body. I’d never been so hungry, so out of my mind with desire as I was when it came to Hawk. My nails dug into the flesh of his back as he devoured my mouth and down my throat.

“Let’s get started with a quick appetizer.” Hawk nipped at my neck, my shoulders as he played with my clit, rubbing his fingers back and forth between my folds until my breath caught in my throat.

“Hawk. More. I need more.”

A low laugh, deep and guttural, vibrated against my skin. “I like when you’re bossy, Nurse Laura.” He pulled back, wearing a seductive smile as he gripped my throat with one hand, tracing his thumb along the line of my jaw. “Now tell me, what do you need more of, Nurse?”

Why did this little game make me so hot? He wasn’t the first guy who had a nurse kink, but this was the first time it was doing something for me too. “You,” I whispered. “More of you, Hawk. Touch me. Please.”
