“You seem awfully sure,” Liam taunts.

“Because I am.” I may question a lot of things about what’s going on between me and Caleb, but I read his possessive actions loud and clear.

It gives me hope that other feelings will follow.

The click of my keyboard fills the silence as I craft an anonymous tip about the missing Omegas while Liam watches me like a hawk.

I had concluded it was the only way to alert the police that the owner of the company my brother had worked for was linked to the building manager where he rented an apartment. Any other method will draw attention to the Rockford family.

Liam drops his foot back to the floor with a heavy thump that startles me. “What are you working on?”

I huff with frustration. “Can’t you babysit me from a different room? There aren’t any windows in here for someone to sneak through and attack me.”

Liam’s brow furrows in an expression too much like Caleb’s. The family resemblance runs strong. “I thought I was here to stop you from running away.”

I glance up from my laptop. “Why would I do that?”

He shrugs. “I heard about a threat involving chains.”

Shaking my head, I snort. “I didn’t realize the Rockford Alphas were such gossips.”

“You have no idea.” Liam laughs at my ignorance. “But if Caleb keeps you around, you’ll learn.”

I scowl at the emphasis he puts on the word if while also hoping Caleb keeps me forever. And I now understand why he didn’t want to remain at the Rockford estate.

When he said his family was nosy, it was an understatement.

When the silence stretches on, Liam asks, “So, what were the chains about, if not to confine you?”

An annoyed sigh escapes me. “Ask Caleb if you’re so curious.”

“But I’m asking you,” Liam presses.

I fold my hands on the desk. “Do you run the security for all the Rockford businesses? Or just their personal homes?”

Liam’s expression turns suspicious. “Why do you want to know?”

I gesture between us. “Thought we were playing the invasive questions game.”

Liam tilts his head to the side. “How much has Caleb explained to you?”

“Nothing.” I hold his eyes, which are the same brown as Caleb’s. “He hasn’t told me anything.”

“But you know something,” he counters with surety.

“Of course, I do,” I scoff. “Caleb came to kill me at Nolan’s request. Cat’s out of the bag on that one. But he hasn’t revealed any deep dark secrets about his job or what it means to your family.”

“No?” Liam challenges. “What about your visit with Leo earlier?”

“Leo only came by to answer some questions about the time he spent living at Sunrise Apartments.” My attention returns to filing the anonymous report, flagging Detective Wells before I hit send.

A soft chime comes from Liam’s phone a second later, and his gaze flicks up to me, confirming my suspicion that my fancy new laptop has a keylogger and my babysitter knows exactly what I’m doing.

Nothing’s wrong with what I did, though, so I ignore the invasion of privacy to continue the conversation. “If you’re so curious about what Leo shared, you can listen to our discussion by reviewing the footage from the office cameras.”

“Spy on my cousin’s fiancé? I like my balls attached.” Liam mutters a curse under his breath, and I resist smiling in victory.

Then curiosity gets the better of me, and my attention returns to Liam. “Did you do the security at Velvet Oasis?”
