She obeyed without hesitation and then pouted. “I love you and everything you do, but it’s not fair of you to expect me to keep my wits together when you turn me on like this.”

The corner of his mouth lifted. “I turn you on?”

She scoffed. “You know you do.”

He blasted her with a megawatt smile, agreed, “Yes, I do,” and buried his face in her neck.

At the carnal onslaught, she pressed her thighs together to alleviate some of the ache in her core. In all her married years, Liam never elicited so much as a sliver of lust, and Byron only had to move his lips from her shoulder to her ear and she was dripping wet and ready for sex.

A sharp nip at the pulse at the base of her neck made her gasp and squeal.

“No thinking of the bastard.”

Unreal. “How on earth—”

“Did I follow where your mind went?” he finished for her. “I see you, Kittycat. You brace yourself when you think of him, and your face turns as lifeless as a mask.”

“Oh… I think less and less of him to be honest.”

“Good!”

Charlotte giggled again but soon sobered. “I should probably start searching for a cheap divorce lawyer.”

Now, her Master tensed. “We will find an excellent lawyer for you and not a cheap one. In fact, let me call my attorney. Garrick might be a corporate lawyer, but he should know someone who can help.” He reached for his phone.

Charlotte stilled his movement by placing her palm over his hand.

Tilting his head, he arched a brow in an obvious, “what?”

“I can’t afford an expensive lawyer.”

His eyes softened. “You don’t need to, I can.”

As exasperation, indignation, and a well of love warred inside her for supremacy, Charlotte quietly asked, “Why should you pay for my divorce?”

Gripping her shoulders, he turned her, putting them face to face. “Compromise with me on this, please.” He swallowed and loosened his grip. “I’m not going to stop you from leaving in a few days. I’m not going to force you to work for my company. I respect you and your decision to find your own way in life. I don’t like it, but I understand your need. I’m a Dom, kitten, and I love you. It’s going to be super hard not to interfere in your life, and I do want to figure out with you how you can accomplish your goals with me still being part of your life.” He dropped his forehead to hers. “Please, don’t shut me out completely.”

The room was silent except for their breathing for several long moments.

“I won’t, Sir.”

His chest heaved. “Thank you.”

“That still doesn’t explain why you should hire a lawyer for me.”

His lopsided grin melted her heart and she almost agreed right away, but Charlotte bit her tongue.

“Liam is going to fight hard and fight dirty. He might not love you but he’s not a man to let go of his assets easily.”

Charlotte scoffed. “I’m not an asset to him.”

Byron cocked his head. “I think you are, but let’s keep that for another time. Liam has the money and the connections to make it hard for you to divorce him. You’re going to have enough on your plate as it is. Please, let me handle this for you.”

If his logic wouldn’t have swayed her, his plea would have. Byron rarely used the word please, and it took the wind right out of her. She suddenly realized that being an independent woman and making it on her own didn’t mean refusing help when it was offered. Charlotte slung her arms around his neck. “All right, Sir. I’ll let you handle the lawyer stuff.” Then she mashed their mouths together, showing him her gratitude and how much she adored him.
