Page 56 of Finding Limits

“Well, have you looked for her?” I stare between all three of the girls.

“Of course, we have.” Savannah uses Cole's forearm to get herself up from the couch. “I searched the bunkhouse and the stables and Josie tried your cabin. She just called and said she’s not there either.”

“Then where the fuck is she?” I can feel my anger starting to take over, especially since we’re rapidly losing daylight.

“Come on, Mitch, she can’t have gone far, you know how nervous she is.” Wade tries to calm me down, but it doesn’t fuckin’ work.

“Maybe she just wanted some space.” Savannah shrugs, and the look on her face tells me she knows way more than what she’s letting on.

“Did somethin’ happen? Was she triggered by somethin’?” Garrett checks, and while Maisie and Leia shake their heads, Savannah bites her lip like she’s holding something back.

“Savannah.” Cole must notice too because he’s giving her a look of warning.

She smiles at her husband, sweetly, but he shakes his head back at her. “Savannah, if you know somethin’ ya have to tell us. It’s gettin’ dark out there,” he points out sternly.

“I can’t. I promised I wouldn’t.” She shakes her head defiantly and I’m just about to lose my shit when Maisie quickly intervenes.

“Savannah, this isn’t the time to be worried about something like that. If what you know might help us find Everleigh you have to share it. For all you know, she could be lost and scared.”

“Fine.” Savannah blows out a frustrated breath as her eyes stare across the room and settle on mine.

“She’s pregnant,” she tells me, and of all the words I was expecting to hear, none of them were those.

“It’s impossible.” I shake my head.

“That's what she said but it’s true, she was feeling sick and I picked up on it so I took her to our cabin and she did a test. She’s pregnant. She was overwhelmed by it all and she probably went to get the pot so she could get her head around the idea. She won’t have gone far.” Savannah looks at her husband and smiles awkwardly as all the rest of the heads in the room turn to me.

“I gotta find her.” I storm out the door ready to get back on my horse and scan every fuckin’ acre of this ranch. I don’t know how what Savannah is claiming can be true, but I do know that Everleigh is vulnerable, and a night outdoors ain’t safe.

“We’re comin’ with ya,” Garrett says, as all three Carson men follow me out. “We’ll send the boys back out too, each of us can cover a grid. We’ll find her.” I feel his hand slap my shoulder.

“Who the fuck is that?” I quickly turn my head when Cole alerts us of something in the distance. Hunter’s horse is galloping into the yard with a woman riding his saddle instead of him. Her eyes are wide and she practically collapses to the ground as she slides off the saddle.

“You have to help them. He’s got them,” she manages as Garrett tries to aid her back onto her feet.

“Who’s got who?” I take her by the shoulders and try to shake the answers out of her.

“Solomon, he came here for Hunter, and now he’s got her too.” She’s breathless and her words come out shaky but they still fill me with dread.

“Naomi?” I look at the woman a little deeper in her eyes and recall the girl I once knew. The nod of her head confirms I’m right but we ain’t got no time for a reunion.

“Where are they?” I squeeze her tight, desperate for answers.

“He’s found a new place, he wants to take us all there but they don’t want to go with him. She’s so scared.” I feel my heart actually stop beating when I think of how terrified she must be. I made Everleigh a promise, and I’ve failed her.

“Where are they?” I keep a firm grip on her, trying to keep her focused.

“Back that way.” She looks over her shoulder. “He has an RV, it’s old but it?—”

“That son of a bitch. Grid 7!” I call out to anyone who can hear me, before hopping up onto Hunter’s horse and taking the reins.

“He’s got a gun,” she warns me as I steer him to turn around.

“Mitch, wait for us to saddle back up.” Garrett looks up at me.

“No time.” I shake my head. “You wouldn't be hangin’ around if that was your girl in trouble.” I dig my heels into Blaze and take off, pushing him to his limits as I canter out the yard and head to Grid 7.

“Focus on me.” Hunter does his best to keep me calm, but I can see how scared he is too. “You thought of any names for the kid?” he questions, acting as if we’re not tied up about to be taken God knows where by a psychopath.
